... Mistreated, shade-sighted. Cybindis can only speak in the shade-tongue, and see into that dark realm. The shade priest, Pestilence, is the only one that understands his tongue, his horrified murmurings. Eventually Cybindis's 'mate' was brought in on the ruse.

Cybindis grew angrier, at the whole affair- the congregation, all of it. He struck his 'mate', the lying Sverre dead, tearing out her throat- and in trying to get to Pestilence, has trapped the congregation in their chapel. He paces now, and with a dead imperial in the courtyard, the congregation grows desperate.
