  Ferre was born in the far reaches of the Snowsquall Tundra, aban-doned at the doorstep of a witch doctor, and left to fend for himself. Young, scared, and uncertain, he found shelter in the heretic's home; many years of tense lessons and harsh winters formed him coarse and impulsive.

  An end came to his education, abrupt as it was, and he set off on his own to see the world and spend some time working out who he was under the layers of what others made him.
