The younglings stand in line, paired off in twos with no real rhyme or reason besides the occasional sibling bonds. Some shudder as the winds of the Ascent tug at the tips of their wings behind them; not all were so deeply inclined to flight as the Spiral looping in front of them. "It's race day, kites!" He calls out in a voice more fit for a camp counselor than a drill sergeant. "The first three teams of two to make it to me on the other side of the Ascent are coming with me to the roost. The rest of you lot go to the other trainers."

With every new wave of recruits, Sriracha insisted that he get first picks. The other three never challenged his request. As he saw it, his method of weeding them out meant he got the most enthusiastic group.

With graceful and energetic flow, he makes it to the other side, and wraps himself about a particularly sturdy stalk of bamboo before swinging the bright orange flag.

Fire crackles between the three of them, a dyed orange cloth stretched between two coarse shrubtrees keeping the flames sheltered from the winds otherwise whipping about them. Sriracha sits coiled upon himself, a Ridgeback and Nocturne sitting across the fire from him. The two recruits look exhausted, and while their mentor is still for once, he looks somehow refreshed.

Staring down at his lemming that he still hasn't eaten, the Nocturne speaks up. "Sriracha sir- all the recruits with the other trainers act like their lives are ending. Is being exalted really that bad?"

Before he can answer, the Ridgeback snaps, "Well we're all going to war! Of course they're scared!" She spews some of the fish she was chewing, a bone getting caught in the Nocturne's horns.

"There's no reason to be scared though," Sriracha finally interjects, his tailtip slapping the fishbone off his poor recruit. "Everyone acts like it's war war war, but it ain't! It's service. All the deities are grateful for you guys, and they find the best place for ya to get to work." He crunches through a quick mouthful of dragonflies before continuing. "I hear even the Stormcatcher has great benefits. He's got dental! You're just helping out a god instead of a clan."

The Nocturne looks down at his lemming thoughtfully. "So it's not all bad…" Appetite reinvigorated, he eats heartily now, their camp not lasting much longer before they get back to training.

It's graduation day, and the warbound are all being sent away to fulfill their duties. For most of them, it's something bittersweet to somber to even dreadful. But to Sriracha and his trainees, it's something to celebrate. They party like only wind dragons can, a skill they also gained under the Spiral's tutelage, until he's eventually the only one left awake, the others having hardly made it back to the barrack dens.

Tucking a couple loose limbs back onto nests, Sriracha retires to his own den, his augite protector hopping right up into his coils as he reaches for a scroll.

"Dear Mom and Pop,

I had another curious rookie this time around. He seems excited to go serve now. Maybe you'll get to see him…"
