Ares is a natural born leader. With his quick thinking and his fast reactions, he has saved his clan from more than one disaster. His demeanor calming even the most enraged dragon, he often listens in on conflicts to resolve them. He listens to those that follow him, and in turn, they respect and follow his wishes.

Oftentimes, he can be seen working alongside his clan members, helping repair dens or simply asking them how their days been. He cares about those who follow him, and considers all opinions or complaints expressed to him.

Despite this, Ares is fiercely protective of his clan. Putting others ahead of himself, Ares is likely to charge straight into battle at even the slightest hint of danger. While this rash attitude has caused some close calls, the Spiral has always escaped with nothing more than a few scraps or bruises. He doesn’t take well to others threatening his clan, and will do everything in his power to protect them.

Ares was reared in the Sunbeam Ruins. He lived happily there, studying with his peers among the vast library. The glittering ruins were a paradise, and though Ares was content, he couldn’t help but think that there was something missing. Something called to him from that bit of darkness at the edges of the territory.

He had been told stories of those who called the night their ally, those who lurked in the shadows. They were stories told to frighten hatchlings from straying too far from their nests, stories made to keep them safe in the glittering haven. To Ares, they were just that. Stories.

As he aged, Ares ceased peering into the shadows, hoping for a glimpse of something magical. Instead, he began focusing on his studies. There had just been a new scroll discovered telling of an ancient breed of dragon, and Ares poured all his energy into deciphering just what the script spoke of. It was as he was close to a breakthrough that two dragons rushed by, screaming of shadows attacking them and their comrades.

Ares never thought. He leapt from the room and raced to the edge of Lightweaver’s territory where he could see dragons grappling with tendrils of darkness. Lunging into the fray, the fight was quickly over, ending in Ares chasing the shadowed dragons back to where they came from.

It was only then, panting, that Ares realized that he had strayed a bit too far into the Tangled Woods. Behind him, there stood no view of his beloved Sundial Terrace, only of gnarled brambles and overhanging vines.

yPL7vcO.gif He wasn’t sure how long he searched for his way back, but no matter which way he headed, he seemed to make no headway. Finally, he decided to give up. For whatever reason, it seemed as if the Tangled Woods wanted him to stay. Who was he to leave after all that?

Surprisingly, Ares adapted to the shadows well. His agility and intelligence helped him survive, and his quick thinking spared him from most dangerous situations.

One night, as he was settling in to sleep, a voice called out to him. He was weary of an attack, but the speaker seemed to have no ill-intent. The two Spirals soon struck up a conversation, and they realized they had more in common than they realized.

A budding romance was born, and Ares and Khione began traveling together for a bit. The Tangled Woods had been Khione’s home for as long as she could remember, and she showed Ares the best places to gather food or to rest for the night. It was thanks to Khione that Ares was able to avoid demise in the ever plentiful puddles of darkness, and that Ares learned to avoid eating the strange Glowshrooms. In turn, Khione learned quite a bit from Ares as well.

It was after a long day that the two turned to each other. After a bit of discussion, they came to an agreement. Together, they would create a clan.
