Resolution

Resolution used to be a sweet little rainbow princess. When she was first born the whole clan celebrated; the King had sired other bastardborn before but this was Plague Queen Wednesday's firstborn, hatched on the first day of the New Year, and she was beloved by every dragon in the clan. Resolution (so named after the tradition of New Year resolutions) was spoiled and cossied, given the best of everything. Gem apparel, new accents, the prettiest familiars, artists painting her portrait, and attention and praise at every festival.

But Resolution was never bratty, always gentle and kind, willing to give her attention to all who sought it, modest when praised and generous with her riches. When Resolution was still young her mother went to serve the Plaguemother, the greatest of honours, and Resolution began to train to take over her mother's duties to the clan, representing the Plaguemother to new arrivals and paying attention to details the Progenitors didn't have time for. She was bright, friendly, and dutiful.

That was nearly a decade ago.

Then came the long absence, when the Clan were abandoned in the rotting wounds at the depths of plague territory, unable to leave, nothing to eat. Nobody came from outside to train and play and learn to serve the Mother, every egg laid died in the nests, and the progenitors grew into monstrous dragons and lost their minds. Her father, the king, walked off out of the lair one day and never came back.
