"Magician"
Nothing up my sleeve...
Mate: Blare
Cadence is the greatest illusionist and most magically talented performer in all of Sornieth....At least that's what all of his promotional material claims him to be. In actuality, Cadence isn't even magically gifted at all. Through a remarkable skill with slight-of-hand and incredible showmanship, he is able to pass as an awe-inspiring magician and performer.
Unfortunately for his audiences, these performances' main purpose is not for entertainment. Cadence, along with his assistant Blare, use their magic shows as a front for thievery and con artistry. When a member of their audience gets picked to be a volunteer for their act, they won't notice that any treasure or expensive items they had on them are missing until the partners in crime are long gone. Or perhaps some valuables may never be seen again after "vanishing into thin air".
When the Sanctuary's Naval Guard made landfall in The Tangled Wood, some of the crew set out to look for supplies to continue their voyage. However, many instead sought out ways to relax after their long journey. First Mate Nasima, along with Bao, ventured into the closest town in search of entertainment. The pair came across a crowd in the town center and went to investigate...
Cadence stood upon a small wooden stage, gesturing to a young Wildclaw to join him. Asking for a single Gem, which the younger dragon hesitantly gives, he begins to weave shadows through his claw-tips, and commands them to wrap around the Gem. After a few moments, he tosses the gem into the air, where it stays magically suspended and begins to glow. Suddenly the light expands and a beautiful, dazzling Spiral emerges from it. The crowd applauds and cheers.
Nasima was in awe and wished to see more, Bao was not so amused...
Cadence reached out to the Spiral, who wrapped around him like the serpent he is. He then gestured to another dragon in the audience, a vibrantly colored mirror in the very back. She quickly ran to the stage, much to the irritation of her Guardian companion. He asked for her to tightly hold her claws together and open them on his command. She gladly did so, and her hands began to glow. At his word she opened them to find...

Confused she looked to Cadence, who stood in contemplation then made exaggerated gesture toward the Guardian. Ever indifferent, he dismissively turned away but noticed his distinctive beard giving off that same glow. The Gem fell from it, stopping just short of hitting the ground, then flew through the air back into the hands of its original Wildclaw owner. The crowd went into a frenzy.

After taking their bows and accepting a few donations thrown into his hat, the magician and his assistant retreated behind a curtain. Nasima excitedly chattering about sharing the experience with their fellow shipmates to Bao, who remained disgruntled about his unwilling participation.
Cadence emptied their meager earnings into a secret compartment within the stage, only a few pieces of treasure. Blare proudly revealed the Gem from their Wildclaw "friend", carefully hidden under his various silks. Cadence eyed it with greed, then began checking past the curtain. He watched the hatchling walk away, satisfied with his entertainment, and the convincing icy replica he was given in return for his cooperation. They quickly stashed the gem as well.
"Oh not again," Blare suddenly stated, pointing past the crowd toward an ominous figure in the distance. Cadence looked to see a certain Ridgeback he'd rather avoid. The two scrambled to gather their things when yet another familiar face demanded his attention.

Nasima decided she has to see one last trick before she returns to her crew. She saw the performers packing away their stand into a cart and rushed to them before they could leave. "Hi again! I see you're leaving soon, and i know you must have other places you wish to do your show. Do you think you could do one last quick little trick? It doesn't have to be anything too special or fancy! I need to see something, anything else before...".
Cadence did not have the time for this overly excited fan, and she spoke so unbelievably fast. Everything she said barely registered to him as he watched the Ridgeback come ever closer. "Please! I dont know when I'll get the chance to see something like this again". The enthusiasm would normally be appreciated and easy to take advantage of, but now is not the time. "I could even give you the treasure i have to spare!" Profit is a hard thing to resist, just this once he'll make an exception. "I have to tell my crew about your show, when my ship sets sail we won't see land for months and-"

An idea dawned on him. He exchanged a glance with Blare who who appeared to have the same exact thought, "Monthssss my dear? Without so much as a card trick for entertainment?", he asked. "Yea! As exciting as sailing is, some days can get rather-" "My friend, I believe i have a sssolution to your boredom! What if my asssisssstant and I were to join you on your great voyage?", He offered.
Blare chimed in, his silky voice a nice contrast to Cadence's harsh one, "We would provide for you and your crew reality defying feats of magic and mysticism. In exchange for the permission to board your vessel and continue to perform wherever you make port."

This grabs Bao's attention. He spreads his large wings between Nasima and the so-called performers. He interrupts, "No", as quietly as he can with his naturally booming voice. Nasima begs, "Come on you big grump, this would be so cool!" He speaks again slowly, "I. Don't. Trust. Them.". "Think of how much fun Peyton would have big guy!"
"..."
She takes his hesitation as resignation. "Good because as First Mate, I say...", she climbs atop her bodyguard and yells, "...Welcome Aboard!"
"Excccellent! Quickly now!", Cadence grabs their belongings as Blare settles down beside the mirror saying, "Please, show us to your glorious ship". Their new large friend quickly turns to Cadence and menacingly stares him down. "No. More. Tricks," he says, pointing to his beard. "You have my word frien-" "Not. Friends".

Cadence and Blare arrived in the Sanctuary when the ship returned home, and found more than they could ever ask for. Not only had they evaded their pursuer yet again, they also found the perfect place to lay low. The Twilight Troupe welcomed the pair with open arms.
