Originally hailing from the Viridian Labyrinth, Illyana used to call the dense jungles her home. Born in a hatchery under Talonok control, she was essentially trained from birth to serve as both a sky-mount and a companion for the Talonok’s warriors. The Skytalon, they called themselves, the clan having carved out its own expanse of territory between warring dragon clans.

But her natural affinity for magic brought her out of the skies and under the careful tutelige of the Skytalon's resident Corven Shaman. She learned to read the wind and commune with the spirits of the land and was taught a number of rituals by which to summon and banish spirits and ask them for aid. Even after her sister and many other dragons escaped, Illyana remained behind to ensure the safety of the other dragons and the members of the clan she knew only as family.

After the chaos had settled and the clan had returned to a semblance of normalcy, Illyana still felt compelled to seek out her sister. With some convincing, the Skytalon leadership agreed to allow her leave, on the condition that she escort one of the Corven Reapers of the clan and aid him in his own endeavors.
