Tau brought the Hothouse project into fruition. His parents, Lambda and Emerald were the ones who set it going before they both went their own ways.

Back when the clan inhabited the Gladeveins, there was a Coatl named Lambda living with us who raised an issue with the clan elders: whenever a Coatl decided they wanted eggs, they would feel the urge to return to the Emberglow Hearth to nest and resisting this call was causing a lot of distress. Maple - one of the founders - took an interest and began to experiment with his Nature magic to see if he could recreate the Waste's atmosphere here in the Labyrinth and eventually he managed it!

By holding the magic still in his maw and using his facet wings he could refract it into a narrow beam that could scorch. We suppose that bouncing the magic back and forth must have altered its properties from Nature to Light? Or perhaps just to a rawer, nonelemental form...

Anyway, by the time this part of the research was complete, the clan had moved into the Shrieking Wilds, and this is where first heat chamber was built: an igloo-like construct woven of brambles and willow and then layered with cured tree sap to try and heat-proof the structure. Running through the centre of the hollow was a deep and narrow channel filled with water which briefly opened up into a shallow pool before narrowing again and exiting through the other side. Maple would sit with his Facet-winged students around the pool and use the scorching beams to boil the water and fill the chamber with steam.

That first iteration of the project was enough to take the edge off the resident Coatls' urges, but the clan has moved near the Behemoth and built a new hothouse which has made several significant advancements - such as replacing cured tree sap with Cindervine which made the structure far more breathable while still retaining heat - thanks to which Coatls can nest comfortably close to home and well within the Gladekeeper's domain.

Lambda left the clan and the project just before we moved to the Behemoth, but one of his children, Tau, remains to this day and continues to work with Maple, Glory and Balmoral to improve the system.
