The sciomancer. A shadow dragon with a unique gift; to read the shadows themselves. Divining the past and future from a dragon's shadow. Years of isolation has left her with cryptic speech and confusing sayings, but those who are willing to listen will learn of things they may not fully understand. Her words are filled with lies, and it takes a keen mind to see through her deceit to discover the core of her prophecies. Nycta is often considered a bad omen as she predicts deaths within a clan. Whether these predictions hold truth is yet to be confirmed. Born from parents she no longer remembers. Neglected from a young age and left to wander the dark, cursed Tangled Wood, having no home to return to. Never even given a name. The Imperial was left to survive on her own, accompanied only by the darkness of the forest. With no knowledge on how to gather food she was close to starvation. It was upon this low point that she began to really see them. The shadows. Projected twisted shapes and patterns in the dark, omens and pathways displayed in the blackness. With no other option she followed. The shadows became her ally. Her friend. Her guardian. She learned to read them, became enamoured by the differences in shape, the way they played where the light could not reach. It was the shadows from which she took her name. Nycta. Her sciomancy only grew with age, being able to make predictions based on shadows. Reading their shape and size like a book. A true Shadow dragon, one with the gifts that surrounded her, living in own little playground. But the woods grew boring. The creatures too often blending into the dark, their shadows mixing into the blackness, unable to be read. With all meaning taken from her joys she left the Tangled Wood, crossing the putrid borders into the Scarred Wasteland. A land filled with darkness of a different kind. It exhilarated her. But that life, too, could not thrill her long enough. The shadows began speaking again, telling her to leave. Telling her to kill before she'd be killed. In an act of what she saw as mercy she killed her young and fled, choosing the voices over the clan she left behind. Now she is left to wander, chasing shadows to a new life. | ..................... |
