![]() ![]() Jack Drachen ![]()
Pirate, Plunderer
Scalawag ![]()
"Stolen water is sweet; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant."
- Proverbs 9:17 "Oi, you mean this crown jewel? What're you talkin' about, yours? It's an old family heirloom o' mine!" ![]() ![]() ![]() Jack is difficult, stubborn, and brash, which makes him irritating to the dragons who have to live with him. While he remains in Northern Tundrheim with the IceShard flock, he often takes his ship out on “vacations,” nearly always returning with a hold full of treasure. No one says anything, however, since he makes sure to put part of it into the flock’s savings. Although he originally had an eye for Tygra, Jack has decided to settle down with a Ridgeback named Lark—funny, cute, and has the tendency to dip her claws into his hoard. She is his sweetheart, and he loves to spoil her with the finest jewelry that a dragon can buy (or steal). Continued: Having been born the son of a knight and a lady, it was assumed that Jack would be birthed in prosperity, raised in nobility, and slain in chivalry. However, this was not so. Despite the fact that he was born into wealth, Jack was never content with what he had—In fact, once he reached adulthood, he traded in his coin for a massive timber dragonship. His mortified parents removed him from their lineage, refusing to call him their son. Jack did not care. Stealing money was more pleasurable than inheriting it, and there were plenty of rich dragons to pillage from. Unable to find a suitable crew in the Frigid Floes, Jack left for a time, haunting the waters of the Leviathan Trench. Oh, he had heard the stories. He’d listened to the tales of sailors who’d ventured far into the waters, never to return again. Of the mysterious, gilled dragons who made their dens in cliff faces. Of the mysterious twilight shroud that kept even the mighty Tidelord from viewing parts of his own territory. Jack was disappointed by what he saw, to say the least. He’d be expecting monsters thirty-some feet tall; crazed sailors on sandbars in the middle of nowhere; whirlpools that bore the greatest of ships to Davy Jones’ Locker. What he found was a misty ocean. Sure, it was filled with monsters…beastclans, dragons…but he wanted treasure. Not broken ships that had already been looted by Marens. As the swallow always returns home, so do pirates—and the same was to be said for Jack. He took his crewless ship and his stolen treasure back to the Frigid Floes, still unable to find dragons to rob. If one cannot find boats in The Sea of a Thousand Currents, then where can one find boats? So he ventured inland, leaving his ship at the borderline of Northern Tundrheim. Whether Jack was aware that he was intruding upon someone’s territory or not, trouble found him in the form of Tygra—who immediately caught the ol’ scalawag’s deft eye. Thinking to flirt, he approached her with a seducing grin. “Easy way or hard way?” the Wildclaw asked, popping the knuckles on her front paws. “Eh?” Jack blinked, unsure of what he should reply. “What d’ya mean by that, missus?” “I mean,” Tygra said, speaking slowly, “ya’ll gonna leave, or get your face punched in?” "Punched in by whom?” Jack asked, snickering. “Ye don’t mean yerself, miss?” Tygra smiled sweetly, and then showed him exactly whom would be punching in his face. Afterwards, she dragged him to the lair and dumped him in the central cave, asking whether he should stay as part of the clan or be dropped into the icy waters of the Frigid Floes. “Oy, don’ I get any say in this?” Jack asked, picking himself up and spitting out snow. “I mean, how was I s’posed to know that this land was protected by a cruel dragoness?” He looked at Tygra with one brow raised. “You itchin’ to go another round?” Tygra growled, before Imperial nudged her with his shoulder. “Perhaps he can be of some use to us,” Frysta growled, leaning down to gaze into the pirate’s face. “He’s not from The Sea of a Thousand Currents…from where do you hail, dragon?” “The bliddy, empty, no-good Frigid Floes,” Jack spat, glaring back at Frysta. “He’ll serve a purpose if we keep him long enough,” the Konungur said, turning to go to one of the caverns. “We’re keeping him, then?” Darkbane sneered. ““What are you—some sort of fisher? We’ve already got one of those. A thief? We don’t need any of them.” “Try not to be too worried about the competition, Darky,” Imperial snickered. He nudged Tygra and they turned to one of the caverns. He paused, looking back at Jack. “If you consider making a run for it, we’ll send Blood-Oath on your tail. She’ll have fun with that.” “A ‘she’?” Jack asked. He shook his head. “No thank’ee, I’ll stay right here. The dragonesses in this place are terrifying.” |
