- Hatchling Biography

Iska doesn't hold on to many memories from his childhood, but he recalls his clan was prosperous and he was loved. He holds the fondest of feelings for Wind territory, even if he remembers little of his time there.

- Adolescent Biography

He left his home territory to experience the world - but kept up his spending habits without considering his coffers would empty. Things spiraled downward from there. He went from mercenary to pit fighter, desperately trying to make enough to free himself from the debt he incurred so early on, and picking up injury after injury on the way.

Anya, then wandering as an emissary of Amberspire, would find him nursing his wounds after one such fight, and offer him absolution of debt should he join her then-fledgling clan.

He quickly accepted.

- Adult Biography

Iska would learn he was contracted for life as a servant of Amberspire, and expected to fight whenever called upon as such. Medics tended to his injuries, but he - like all the other soldiers of the burgeoning military clan - were fated to incur more. It was simply an expectation.

He had long since come to understand he did not like fighting. He also had long since come to understand he did not like Anya.
But, under contract, he had to endure both.

Unexpected respite came in the form of Persephone, a fellow warrior - though much higher rank - who took a surprising shine to him. She was friendly, funny, and quite beautiful, and it wasn't long before he was rather smitten with her.
It didn't occur to him that their marriage would raise his own rank, nor make Anya back off to any extent, but he soon found he was elevated from simple grunt work to work as a personal guard to Queen Pepper herself.

This was a much easier job that saw him - usually - simply standing at one side of the fae as Persephone stood at the other, framing Pepper like twin marble statues as she negotiated with whoever they'd come to see.

Though, there were times it was fraught with danger as well. He would also find himself flanking the leader when she was called upon to aid allied clans, and through that saw greater horror than he'd ever imagined Sornieth had to offer.
On the last allied mission he was part of, he was severely injured; mauled and nearly losing a forelimb entirely. Pepper herself pulled his body back together and stopped the bleeding, and he was carried slowly and painstakingly back to Arcane territory by Persephone over the weeks following.

With much of the musculature of his left arm gone, he relearned to walk with supports, but certainly could not fight any longer.

He did his best to hone his magic instead, whipping up winds as sharp as blades - but not with the same stamina he once held with tooth and claw. His marriage to Persephone was all that secured his place in the clan during its military heyday. He focused instead on supporting her as best he could; from bandaging any wounds she sustained, to packing her lunches and making sure she rested during off-hours.

It was a great relief for both imperials when Avonne took over and the clan's focus gradually began to shift to other things.

Pepper would later come to him as a researcher, and request his participation in magical experimentation. She thought she may be able to fix his leg, after all...
