Liore

Intelligent | Wise | Courteous

Astral Harbinger

Blinded by knowledge, a star returned to the Lands of Radiation and Discovery.

Husked from the shell of a comet, Liore's body stabilized from memories of collided solar systems and astronomic dust particles.

Liore had been sent to the far reaches of their solar sights due to a mishap by hand of research, much to the sorrow and unease of his clanmates. For a short period of time, the clan had been left leaderless, and with very few knowing exactly what had constituted this chain of events. Studious days turned into strenuous years, but eventually, the dragons in the clan combined their efforts and brought Liore home.

A dragon once known for his boundless energy manifested back on the planet without his body. At first, the scientists looking into the scene were afraid; it looked as though they'd only grasped stars and kept them suspended in space, though some were moving as if pulled by the gravitation of something unseen. Events, as they unfolded, gave everyone in attendance viewings of small supernovas as the captive stars collided in on themselves; revealing their lives, their deaths, and Liore. He emerged from these star-shards, and reassembled himself through their likeness.

His eyes, paler than they were before, could no longer view the world as others could. He could feel the wind, but not see the storm clouds as they approached. Liore was blessed with the ability to consume foods once familiar to him, savor their nostalgia, but could never view the Starfall Blossoms adorning the lair in his honor.

When he looked to the sky, he saw in colors unparalleled to the common understanding among the lands. He could not explain the phenomenons he viewed to those in the lair; there were no words in their native language that would compare to the monumental influence compelling Liore.

Only he could see. He could not remember the importance of his return, but he could gaze, transfixed, at the cosmos in their desperate attempts to get him to remember. What was he here to tell them? Even with what his eyes comprehended - things beyond what their most advanced telescopes could see - he could not remember their significance.

His return had been a combination, a delicate dance between all parties involved and their efforts to restore Liore. He was gone for several years, with no access to their food or water. He can't remember, he can't see; that time is left a mystery.

"What can a dragon see with skies like ours?"

"There's a meteor shower tonight, Liore, if that's all you ask."

"I gave up my eyes to return here, Cryptic. They replaced my sight with something not-quite; when I look to your sky, I see tears. Beyond the impact of our stratosphere, they mean something."

Liore's not-quite seeing eyes turned to his familiar, a creature tasked with guiding his slowly winding body around the lair. The dragon may have lost his overabundance of energy, but he was not useless.

"They exhale in tattered whims across time. Perhaps those sorrowful tears belong to bodies now dead, they leave me saddened all the same. Yet all you see are comets in the sky."

The creature, borne of cosmic continuation, curled up into a braided knot and kept his gaze starbound; thoughts resounded endlessly within his mind, posing the same questions back at his consciousness as night bled into day. To his familiar, he quietly turned.

"There is something wrong with our lands. Whatever is out there, they warn us, though from what I cannot know. They're telling me, but I can't make sense of their meaning. I needed to come back, I bartered to come back. What was I meant to tell?"

What once was familiar to his soul had become foreign; the feelings he once embraced felt alien and strange. He could not tell what he was. Was he a dragon? A sentient star? Was he homesick for the Universe's hands, or the hands of a mother long forgotten? Even his successors were distant from himself, with all but few serving the Gods of Sornieth.

Lore Notes wrote:
"The universe is full of magical creations, patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper."

- Clarification: Liore is blind. Curiously enough, if he is outside and looks upwards, a shimmer of pink dust will coat the air surrounding his eyes and solidify into an entangled mass of magic resembling the shape of spectacles. Through these, he claims to see shapes, figures, and anomalies invisible to the normal eye. Even if one were to sneak up behind him in hopes of peering through the magic lenses, the sky would appear gray (similar to colorblindness) and muted.

- Due to an incident, Liore was warped directly from his home lair and sent into the deep recesses of space. It was unknown if this was intended, accidental, or orchestrated to be a one-time occurrence. All attempts to replicate the experiment for rescue-based purposes failed, and the scroll was later found missing. It is uncertain whether this was sabatoge or an honest mistake.

- When he returned, his demeanor was starkly different than how the clan remembered. Ninka, an old Tundra, remembered him by smell, allowing the clan to recognize him as well. He may be seen conversing with the gentled soul as she teaches him navigation without sight or basking as she recalls stories and fables.

Exert from Liore's thoughts:

"I look to the children who's lives I've never stayed for. The children that have since gone to the Arcanist, to the Plaguebringer; all looking for answers that I could never provide. I wonder how they're doing, but with visitation closed, that chapter of life is now forever unavailable. For both of us. May their studies and assistance better off the rest of Dragonkind."

"Astrau, my last born, has chosen to stay. He remains sheltered beneath the Gladewalkers' boughs, somewhere I may chance upon his being at a later time."
