Shall we tell you a tale of who we once were?
How we came to be?
A tale to chill your spine for sure-
We are a bit of a Grotesquerie.
A courier was the job placed upon this form
From peaks above to depths below
The deliveries were fine in sun and in storm
But there was something we could not know-
Let me tell the next part.
My name is Butch, or was while at sea
And you may be asking what has become of me?
My body does slough with each movement I make
This ooze does drop regardless if I should shake.
Once long ago I arrived to the Tempest Spire.
Its height and its architecture I could only admire.
COLLECT THE PACKAGE AND BE QUICK, SEE?
IT'S MEANT TO GO OUT IN TIME FOR THE JUBILEE!
The package was heavy and gave me a jolt!
But I thought nothing of it as I began to bolt.
Upon updrafts I flew, and then I fell
Somewhere above home into a deep, dark, bottomless well.
Whatever it was I was given that day
It caused irreversible damage, much to my dismay.
It detonated in air, though I know not why
And it drove me to fall from the heights of the sky
Upon this place, my birthplace, my home
I was weak, but had a feeling that I was not alone.
But then I felt it- below, above, all around;
Something began to slide over me without making a sound.
Do you remember what it was you said to me then?
Ah yes, we do, "It is not time for you to end."
What was burned or charred by the package's blast
Had by my friends here been anew recast.
That which splayed out was tucked neatly in
Though different yet from my scale or fin.
Let us continue from here.
We were born in the dark from the swell of the Shadows
Creeping along- we did try for others not to be bothered
We fed and feasted upon rotted tree and animal tallow
Though we know not precisely how we were fathered.
The shadows are our home, and as such we learned much
Of how to play tricks and more importantly how to hide.
So when we came upon this weakened one named Butch
We decided that we would coexist by living inside.
Their company is nice- even if now there are too many
Whose fault is that? You hide us from any enemy!
Would you rather part with me and find another?
We worry their mind and thoughts we would smother.
That sounds like a personal problem.
Don't say that and sound so solemn!
It's called a joke with a straight faced delivery
Oh dear comedian your show's tickets are surely free.
Well you all used to say I would have to pay a crowd!
We cannot believe in this shelter we've found....

There's something you left out, you rascals you.
And what would that be, child of the Sea?
Will you not tell them your name true?
We shall not- at this time, at least.
Perhaps later when your mind has ceased.
