Biography

As an egg, Diangen was stolen from the Southern Icefields and spirited away into the warm reaches of the Wandering Contagion. When a clan of dragons finally liberated his egg from the clutches of a beastclan with nefarious intentions, Diangen's fate was sealed. When he hatched, the clan was disappointed at the frail creature that came from the egg, not built for the harsh environment of the plague-riddled wasteland. He lived his life on the outskirts, never truly part of the clan and yearning for a snowy home his bones remembered but his mind did not. When a mirror chose him as her mate, he was elated at the change in his life. The sudden interest in him, despite his out-of-place size and allegiance, gave him hope for the future.

Disaster struck, shattering his dreams and reassuring him that, no, he had not found his charge. When the clutch of eggs hatched and the infants came out sickly, malformed, and near death, Diangen was blamed for the tragedy. As he watched each of his three children die, a little more of him fell into disrepair. When it was clear that not a single shred of his lineage would remain, he was run out of the clan by the angry plague dragons. What business did an ice dragon have in their clan, with his brittle bones and drooping wings?

Diangen came to the Everbloom Gardens and found the field of golden flowers Valentino protected. After an altercation with the smaller guardian, Diangen was accepted into the clan by Pumpkin and made part of the EchoFlowers. Despite the warmer welcome, Diangen stayed on the outskirts and refused to interact much with dragons outside of Valentino and Pumpkin. He frequently patrolled the borders of the territory, bringing back interesting trinkets and sometimes bringing back hatchlings who were lost in the woods.

Both Ayres and Abesnnol were brought to the EchoFlower clan as hatchlings by Diangen. Though he considered leaving Ayres to die because she was a mirror, he ultimately made the right decision. When Absennol was lost in the woods Diangen was beside himself with worry, having considered the young guardian to be his responsibility. He never found evidence that the guardian had perished and so accepted that she had found another clan. He was not present for the battle with the serthis, coming in late to the devastation and holding up the back of the clan's retreat.

When Absennol came across them as they fled, Diangen was happy to see she was indeed safe. Despite his distrustful nature, he slowly let his guard down around the other guardian. Their feelings flourished for each other and among every dragon Diangen has ever known, Absennol is the only one he is truly himself around. They have not yet considered a nest together with Diangen's anxiety over his first disastrous hatch. Still, their relationship is good and healthy, causing both Valentino and Pumpkin to be happy for their previously unwanted guardian.

Life changed in the combined Entfuhren Troupe and EchoFlower clan. No longer as singularly nomadic, Diangen tends to travel with Absennol or the other lost hatchlings, patrolling the edges of their rather large caravan. Though he has yet to find his charge, he feels closer to finding it every day. It gives him hope that he will be able to one day be a complete dragon. Tasuil has been hinting at fixing Diangen in much the same way he fixed Valentino although changing into a spiral doesn't seem like such a good idea.
