Biography
You almost hesitate before placing a hand on the smooth steel door before you, flinching as it begins to slide smoothly and soundlessly to the left at a mere touch. Smoke billows out of the entrance of the room, making your eyes sting. You jump back. Once the smoke has cleared, a laboratory full of pipes, beakers, and bubbling pots is revealed. In the back, tools and metal glint on a bench full of half-finished contraptions. You take a few steps in, peering around the cluttered laboratory in search of its owner. You hear a grunt and look towards the source of the noise. A small pig-like thing emerges from under a workbench and scuttles between your legs. You stifle a shriek.
A green Skydancer appears from a back room. “Get back here, Pluto!” she calls, pushing up her goggles. The pig-thing- Pluto? whimpers and reenters the laboratory, curling up under a bench again.
The Skydancer looks at you. “Oh, hello! I’m Miona. Welcome to my lab. Mind the explosions.” She yelps as, indeed, something explodes behind her. “Excuse me, I’d better fix that.” You nod, deciding to leave as soon as is possible under the rules of politeness. This lab doesn’t seem like a safe place to be.
Miona was born elsewhere in the Viridian Labyrinth, to a clan which had too many children to keep them all. She was put on scavenging duty, and from an early age, she’d hide trinkets and construct them into little contraptions which did various things. Miona had always wanted more attention and a place where she was more than just another burden, so eventually, she plotted to escape. She wanted to fly all the way to the Shifting Expanse, where she would make her home among the circuits and lightning, and build things the likes of which nobody had ever dreamed of. So she collected silvery metal, and over time, shaped it into a flying machine, to give her wings endurance. She walked into the forest one stormy day, said a mental goodbye to her clan, and lifted off.
She flew over the Sunbeam Ruins for half a day without stopping to rest, finally arriving in the Shifting Expanse. But as she searched for a place to land, a bolt of lightning struck. It fizzled through the gears on her wings and made them work twice as fast, but threw them out of control. The resulting explosion threw her all the way back to the Viridian Labyrinth, but in a totally different place. Her inventions were now stuck to her wings, welded on by the lightning. She laid on the ground for several days, gathering her strength, while the Clan of the Enchanted Eden Spruce fed her, although she was a stranger. Once she felt well again, she built the crater where she had fallen into a beautiful laboratory. She works there to this day, although she has learned to wear safety goggles after a series of devastating explosions.
