Valer
Ice 
As a hatchling, Valer never felt like he belonged in his original clan. Of a different species than his skydancer parents, he had always felt a little lonely growing up with them and his many similarly different skydancer brothers and sisters. Oft he would look up into his mother’s eyes and ask her why he was different, and she would reply that he was, in fact, not very different at all. He was her son, and meeting his gaze she would tell him with all the sincerity in her heart that he was the same as the others. As he grew up to be much larger than they, he did not know whether or not to believe it. For a long time he struggled with his identity, and maybe would not have found it if not for the winter famine. An especially harsh winter struck their home one year, and a pack of wolves descended upon his smaller family in lieu of their usual elk. Being much stronger and larger than any of his siblings, in a defensive rage Valer attacked and got gravely wounded in doing so. As he collapsed and watched the wolves retreat, he saw one starkly black in contrast to the frost and white-pelted wolves. It stood tall, defensive of a younger, wounded wolf as it ushered it away from the ambush. Then all faded to black. When he awoke, he had found that he had successfully scared off the wolves with his previously detrimental bulk. He had protected them. Taken by this news, and the sign of the black wolf, he became inspired he sought off to enlist to be a squire into knighthood. He wants to protect those who can’t protect themselves, and maybe find the place he can say he belongs in the process. |
Has a very particular sense of textile feeling. His family were traders of spices, alchemy tinctures, and silks, and he has become rather proficient and partial to the craft as a result. Silks are especially a weak spot for him, as he loves the colors and the way they rest over his scales. He’s admittedly in love with the softer things in life. Valer has an earnestly large family, and although he is one of the absolute youngest, he has become the ‘protective older brother’, and can be triggered into fights or convinced into otherwise morally dubious areas for the sake of family. He has never strayed too far from home, and probably will overheat very quickly in moderate temperatures because of his background in the floes and his dark scales soaking in more heat. Brash and somewhat reckless to prove himself, Valer has done some pretty risky things in adolescence. He used to play games in the Frigid Floes, and once fell through the ice on one expedition and almost froze to death as a result. This, and almost dying from the wolf ambush, has made him a little bit of a stickler for being prepared. |
