When I first saw Noah, I knew there were scars hidden under that armor. He was calm and seemingly cold, yet ready to tell his story to whoever who would listen. That day it happened to be me.

The Bogsneak laid down on a warm, sunlit fragment of an enormous marble plate, looking somewhere over the horizon. The moment he took his helmet off my doubts were proven: a diagonal scar going across his nose bridge divided his face into two halves. A moment later I saw even more marks streaking his neck. While I was trying to pull my eyes away from them, he started talking:

"I was born away from here, in a wasteland endlessly more cruel than this domain. The egg I hatched from was found by a pack of Mirrors. From the moment I was born they seemed disappointed in me for the reason that I wasn't of their kind, I assume. No matter how hard I tried, how great I became in any skill one can learn, they would never treat me like one of them. My pack didn't hate me, no, but I knew I was an alien to them. Nevertheless, I fought for our territory, they were still a family to me, after all, and I had to protect it. Now that I think about it, I think I've fought all my life: for survival, for the pack's lands, for the glory. I'm a warrior and I don't think I can get it out of me…”

Noah glanced at my concentrated face: he could probably guess I was trying to remember every word he says to write it down late.

“Are you wondering why I started training the Pilgrims, Ryu? I know It's hard to see someone like me starting such a movement.”

I didn't think any of that. However, I stayed quiet not to disrupt him, so the Bogsneak continued:

“I think I did it because I was sick of war. I was tired of seeing my packmates getting hurt and die in useless battles. Then I met her, Mirah. She was traveling through the Filthy One's domain, seeking for a new home, somewhere to settle and continue her studies. When I asked her what they were about Mirah went on a night-long lecture about why she researches cosmos and how incredible it is; I didn't stop her. I'll be honest, that meeting was life-changing. She was the first dragon I've seen who was so passionate about something more than land, food, and treasure, someone whose life wasn't centered around survival and constant battle...”

Noah paused, catching his breath and now looking somewhere aside on the ground, smiling to himself.

“She's really something, isn't she?”

Now he looked me directly in the eyes with a happy, silly grin only Bogsneaks are capable of. That moment I realized I was finally seeing past his armor and past his scars. Behind them was a warm heart hidden for anyone to find. Noah was open to anyone who needed him, and now it seems to be the Pilgrims, the dragons with a lost soul, seeking peace in serving the Lightweaver. The Bogsneak trained and taught them like a father: with much love and care. He prepared them for battling and enuring for the Enlightened one, so they can finally find peace with one of the Eleven. Despite the menacing look, Noah was truly ready to reach out to anyone who needed him.

Once a scared Bogsneak fighting for his life. Now a true warrior, teaching others to battle for the right cause.

— It was definitely not love at first sight for Noah and Delairia, the young kelpie what is now his companion. It's hard to believe, with the way the horselike creature never leaves his side, the way her dark eyes peek out under the mane, tracking anyone getting too close to her Bogsneak. Noah has learned to relax, his core is made of love and compassion. Even if he's scarred from his harsh life, it hasn't made dents too deep in his outlook; that the world is a place capable of great beauty and mercy. For the kelpie, it's been harder to let go. Her muscles are still tense around new people. She watches out for Noah with the same intensity as when they were trapped in the wild together. It's what brought them together in the first place. She despised him for a long time, this big dumb, trusting guy seemingly doing his best to die young. The wild breeds the weirdest connections, and she has to admit, when he jumped in front of that featherbeast trampling towards them and she saw all silly, genial pretenses vanish from his eyes and leave only the survivor, the fighter, the defender. She has to admit that right there, she found someone she could call a friend.
