They are not the first to walk this land. Anyone with a desire to do a bit of digging can discover that. They are simply the latest people to lay claim to the place. How many came before is a mystery, but there is certainly a lot to wade through, if one has the yearning to get dirty and dusty. Much of it is the artifacts of day to day living, the ruins of time eaten dwellings and the bones of ancient lives.

Much is not all.

She had just been a hatchling when she stumbled upon it. She hadn't the faintest idea what it was. It was just a… thing, a bright flash in an otherwise uninteresting patch of nothing.

She is a hatchling no longer.

If you would find her, look for the flashes of light, the strange smells, the twisting sounds. Neck deep (and it is a long long neck) in some piece of civilizations past. Some piece no one else has ever found, ever seen.

(Her mind is a map, drawn by something long ago and she knows where things are. Where the ancient libraries are buried. Where the ancient alchemy labs are waiting. Where the ancient labs are lurking. And she will keep hunting, keep digging, keep experimenting until she finds something, anything to wipe the map from her mind. Anything which might purge her of the ghost of knowledge flung into the future. Anything which might free her to be as she might have been.)

She is interested in the technologies of the peoples of the past. She tells others it's a hobby. Just a hobby. And oh, it is odd for one raised with tricks and games to be interested in such a thing. But it is just that. Odd. Not the result of a foolish hatchling breaking a bright glinting orb and breathing in the shimmering essence of some being, long fallen to dust, facing the extinction of their people and wanting to…

That she does not know. She only knows what they did do.

And she will keep knowing, until she finally finds the thing which will let her fling the knowledge from her.
