Lore

In the beginning, there was darkness. And then some slightly less dark darkness. The gradient of darkness slowly gave way to the brightest of lights. She shielded her small red eyes form this light as she heard a shrill shriek fill the air. This made her think that something scary was in the room and wanted to eat her. She curled up into a ball to hide from the scary thing. However, it was far larger than she was and proceeded to pick her up and parade her down a crowded hall.

She opened her eyes again and witnessed the look of great surprise adorning the faces of the large dragons. They began to question Rosie about where she had come across a small Water hatchling, for their Arcane lair had not the ability to produce one. They began to do what they do best: ask a thousand questions that may or may not have real answers pertaining to the small hatchling. The cacophony of noise that resulted frightened the small hatchling even more than the scream of alarm the snapper had issued forth earlier. She began to cry in her fright.

Whilst she was lost in his tears, another gentle paw had taken her from young Rosie, who didn’t know how to handle the small creature. She watched as the plethora of dragons transformed into the quiet peace of the garden. The large claw of another guardian wiped the tears away from the hatchling’s eyes and began to tell her a story that went something like this:

Once, on a cold winter day, a small hatchling woke up alone in a desolate lair. He searched far and wide, looking for any signs of life. Alas, his quest bore no fruit and he found himself alone and hungry. The young dragon quickly realized that no one would ever show up to rescue him. He was all on his own. He taught himself how to hunt, following the dormant instincts deep inside of him. Eventually, he became a fierce hunter determined to forever face the world alone. However, he lost his way in a sudden storm one night while returning to his makeshift home. The wings tore at his massive wings, eventually conquering their strength and forcing them to the ground in an act of submission. The force of the impact left the dragon out of his wits for a time. When he awoke, a smaller guardian was staring at him in an abandoned lair, all on her own. The two decided then and there that no dragon should ever be alone like they were. They opened their lair up to those who the rest of the world abandoned. Those who were too weak, ugly, or undesired were all welcome in their hallowed hall. That’s why it doesn’t matter where she came from or why Din had found her hatching egg in the hoard despite no one remembering her existence.

Days passed in a whirlwind of experiences. The hatchling grew to like her home and understood that she would never have a chance at finding out why she was out there. She spent his free time listening to the stories of the older dragons around her, noticing that none of them came from happy homes. Everyone was abandoned in some way or another. As she grew, she longed to help others who weren’t as fortunate as her. She opened a small stall in the marketplace, asking for stories about dragons who had to face such trials in their early lives. She is working on a book designed to raise awareness for the hatchlings of now, who need loving homes more than ever. It's title? We the World Forgot
