Biography

Brightengale

Brightengale spent much of her life amidst the babbling brooks and bamboo of the Windswept Plateau, hatching nest after nest of gem-colored children destined to serve the Windsinger. When her mate decided to follow their daughters to the Cloudsong, Brightengale accompanied him to the first platform, but no further; her fire burned too hot, and she was not ready.

After they parted, she left the Plateau with little more than her strength to her name, winging her way eastward. She alighted in the Ashfall Waste for a time to visit her father (still spry after all these years, and now bolstering the rebels at the Magmablood Rebuke) and his new mate, whom he had met after her glittering mother was called to the Great Furnace. He suggested Brightengale continue traveling east, if her heart were yet restless, to the sun-drenched land of his own birth. Clans there were often too focused on scholarship to attend to their defenses, and with the risen Emperor roaming about...

Her father let the thought hang in the air like smoke, golden eyes agleam.

Brightengale left the very next day, tracking north over the Sea of a Thousand Currents; its more clement weather would make a quicker journey than would fighting the chaotic storms of the Shifting Expanse, even if the latter route might technically be shorter. As a dragon of Fire, she took extra care to stay well clear of any errant seaspray or coastal squall, dipping low only when hunger clawed at her belly: schools of flying fish made for a quick and easy meal on the go.

Once in Lightweaver's territory, she began searching for a clan to join. The first few she approached were either full or wary of allowing an Imperial into their lairs, regardless of how many already lived there. It was a sentiment Brightengale understood, though not one she necessarily agreed with; nevertheless, her time in Windsinger's lands had muted her natural fiery inclination to take such things personally, and she moved on without any hard feelings.
