Laverna
Tricky | Clever | Sarcastic Roman-born goddess of thieves, cheats and the underworld. Laverna is the mother of all Trickster Wisps, the female companions of Guiding Wisps. She wears the same lantern as her mate Hasamelis, though she has not been convinced from her ways as of yet. Her Mesacliff Harpy companion drifts through the trees ahead of her, watching for dragons looking for guides to lead them through the woods. The glowing violet eyes of this dragon are always glittering with mischief, and her tongue is as sharp and smooth as a spire of ice, weaving a web of words around her prey to lure them from the path. She is especially fond of stealing away the dragons heading towards the Shadowbinder, leading them astray to wherever they end up, never to be found again. Trickster Wisps are a special breed of Nocturne with dark, usually speckled hides and glowing white bellies with purple hued wings. Tricksters, always female, lead dragons astray from their paths through the Tangled Woods to be lost in the undergrowth. It is wise not to follow the bobbing tail lights of the Nocturnes, for the females are known to carry themselves as a male to try and trick the dragons wandering in the dark. It is wise to try and stall these dragons, as the females get impatient if a dragon is not willing to come to them and will leave them alone. In another spin, the Tricksters love riddle games. If someone is capable of outsmarting them in a game of wits, they have gained the respect of the Trickster, and are given a copper lantern to wear on their tail. It gives off a green light, and this is a sign of favor among the Nocs. While on their travels, dragons will not be accosted by Tricksters if they wear this sign, and indeed the Tricksters will turn helpful instead, leading them to shelter and food, often sharing their own nests, which tend to be filled with stolen baubles and trinkets. |
