Biography

Turns out alchemical reagents dissolve crystal. Who knew? Certainly not Silver Gleamlode. That isn't the name his parents gave him, but it's the name he chose after meeting Slate Slabrock at Baldwin's Bilious Buffoonery. He loves living in the Solar Solar; the clan is extremely Tundra-friendly, right down to having two dragons whose profession is helping Tundras remember things, but no one objects to him spending time mostly with the swarm of Mirrors. (Diaphaneity, Slate Slabrock's father, says he's more than just a replacement for David Ryder hanging around Tundras rather than Mirrors, even!)

Even though he can't eat meat, he enjoys hunting with Slate Slabrock, who relies on his keen sense of smell more than she'd ever admit. They were captured in a playful moment by Frii:

Silver Gleamlode and Slate Slabrock had two nests together, but the hatchlings were neither pretty, nor preternaturally good at hunting, nor inclined to stay around family; two went to serve the Earthshaker, one to serve the Flamecaller, one to a Shadow clan, and the youngest to a Plague clan. Slate Slabrock decided to become a Wildclaw (much to Silver Gleamlode's dismay; he doesn't know why she wouldn't want to be a beautiful Mirror!) and Silver Gleamlode decided to see if his hatchlings with Peregrinatrix were more appealing than the ones he'd had with Slate Slabrock.

Their first, Firevein (named like Silver Gleamlode because he inherited Glimmer), travelled a lot before settling with an Earth clan and a pretty Fae lady and having adorable hatchlings. The other from their first nest, Rambler (named like Peregrinatrix because he inherited Circuit), travelled to another Light clan (without the lengthy detours) and also had adorable hatchlings. Peregrinatrix swears she heard Rambler singing within the egg, and reportedly he continues to sing in his new clan. Their second nest all inherited Circuit; three went to look for the Windsinger, one went to another Light clan, and the fourth remained with the Solar Solar until she was an adult and then went to work in the Scrying Workshop. Their third nest had a single egg, who inherited Glimmer: Redmine. Their fourth and final nest had four eggs in it, three with Glimmer and one with Circuit: Swampquarry (another Light clan), Avocadofeather (a different Light clan), Ivory Icefield (Flamecaller, for Mather's Day), and Fieldworker (also to Flamecaller, also for Mather's Day).

After that came Sockknitter's Blessing (or Colorsday, or whatever one wants to call the advent of new colors); Silver Gleamlode and Slate Slabrock decided to see what colors their children would be, and so had another nest together; to their surprise there were five eggs in the nest, as many as they'd had from both previous nests combined. David Ryder declares that this is a sign, and while Slate Slabrock thinks her brother is a few fronds short of a fern, Silver Gleamlode is unsure, especially when all five of the hatchlings had at least one New Color!

Peregrinatrix responded to Colorsday by having a nest with Candela (so there'd be more gold-circuit hatchlings) and then going to the Windswept Plateau to look for Noodledad. Silver Gleamlode's father, in turn, went to work for the Stormcatcher, and his mother went to the Southern Icefield to live with a clan there. This has left Silver Gleamlode feeling somewhat adrift, and he and Slate Slabrock ended up making a den just within the gestalt's range.

The decision proved fortuitous: their outpost was extremely helpful during Light's attempts at consecutive weeks of dominance, and also helped enrich the clan during the time in between. It did, however, mean they were outside the clan's wards. Right before Silver Gleamlode's third Night of the Nocturne there was a fierce battle against Earth, and the clan was constantly engaged in that battle: defending the wards, seeking information, healing and feeding trainers, provisioning exalted dragons both in their initial departure and when they stopped by for aid. (At one point the clan sold five hundred thousand treasure worth of food to a detachment of exalted soldier-librarians!)

This constant effort meant that the little outpost was largely defended just by Silver Gleamlode and Slate Slabrock themselves. When they came under attack, the gestalt was immediately aware, but assistance could only come so quickly. Slate Slabrock was armored, but Silver Gleamlode was not, and the swarm of pronghorn hunters injured him badly with their fangs and conjured gravel.
