wanderer restless ● strong ● adventurous ● lonely ● sarcastic Rosaline hatched from an egg abandoned in the Scarred Wasteland. The dragons who found her were outcasts - exiles on a mission to destroy the clan that turned on them. Despite their dangerous lifestyle, they couldn't bear to leave her. From her older father, she learned patience and strength; she learned to bide her time, to stick to her values, and to never leave a debt unpaid. From her younger father she learned to think fast, and to trust slowly, if at all. That the ends sometimes justify the means, and that if she doesn't put herself first, no one will. She was too young to hear much about how her parents eventually got their revenge, but after it happened, she found herself swept along toward a safe part of Dragonhome along with a band of prisoners they'd freed. Nearly everyone seemed content to settle down, but Rosaline had never known anything but life on the move. She couldn't adjust. She met Anemone on the clan's new grounds. Anemone had been raised as an ally of the clan Rosaline's parents destroyed, but for reasons neither was quite old enough to grasp, Anemone and her immediate family had been spared, given a chance to redeem themselves in a new land. Anemone and Rosaline knew something the rest of their weird new patchwork clan didn't - that staying calm, letting your guard down, and keeping to yourself won't work out in the end. They may have been young, but they knew just how dangerous the world could be, and how dangerous you had to be, to survive it. After months spent plotting their escape together, Anemone joined a Plague clan on a whim. But Rosaline, hesitant to visit the land where she'd been born and left alone, backed out at the last minute. Without Anemone, and without a plan for escape, she was bursting with nervous energy, which she poured into training for combat. Perhaps she'd find it easier to go out on her own if she knew how to fight. Her clan offered two military branches with differing philosophies. The Wandering Vanguard, led by Snappers native to Dragonhome, focused on reconnaissance and defense. Members were not only soldiers, but also ambassadors who often sought to make peace with hostile clans. The Swarm, on the other hand, was a group of Plague dragons who valued speed and ruthlessness above all, and who were occasionally accused of instigating fights. Rosaline chose to train with the Swarm. The two branches cooperated as best they could and frequently teamed up to patrol the clan's sprawling territory. However, not long after Rosaline's first night on patrol, members of the Wandering Vanguard slowly began to go missing. No one could say for sure how, when, or why a dragon ended up separated from the group. What they did know is that it never happened when Rosaline stayed home. This conflict escalated into an all-out feud among the clan's fighters, but Rosaline didn't stick around long enough to see how it ended. She slipped out alone one night, taking her secrets with her. Now that she was stronger, perhaps she'd go seek out Anemone - or perhaps she'd begin to create a story of her own.  { WORK IN PROGRESS } After taking her leave from her former clan, Rosaline traveled the many different regions of the known world; However, she soon felt herself drawn to return to the one place she didn't think she would ever return. The wasteland. It was a strange sensation, considering all that she had done to avoid it. With a great deal of hesitation, she returned to her roots. When she arrived and surveyed the scarred landscape, she felt nothing. It was just a piece of land to her now, but it still seemed to radiate a strange aura that compelled her to continue into it's rotten core despite the warning signals that her consciousness provided her. Days seemed nonexistent here - the rolling fogs swallowing any ounce of light that dared to enter the forbidding grounds. She grew exhausted as her travels stretched on - when finally, she decided to stop and give herself some much needed rest. Setting up camp in what she considered a suitable spot, she felt herself drift into a light and uneasy rest. |
