Bestrafen | The Apprentice Witch Bestrafen is a spitfire. She is single minded and hates having to do what she considers busy work (read: guard duty). She finds the repetitive, dull task of perimeter security a monumental waste of time. As a chick, this fiery Imperial was a handful. She was loud, loud, loud, and had an endless supply of energy. It took her ages to get the ‘no flying’ rule down. Elisa considered evicting her more than once. She has mellowed some with age, but she still has bounds of energy. She has gotten better about controlling her one-sided approach to dialogue. Many dragons still find conversing with her unbearable, mostly due to her one track mind. She can dominate a conversation with complaints about guarding or with praise for witchcraft. These are her favorite topics, and it can be hard to get her to discuss anything else. Her style is somewhat reserved. She doesn’t feel the need to flaunt flashy accessories - her natural colors are bright enough. She sticks to simple white silks and jewelry that complements her gleaming hide. One day she hopes to sport a dashing witch’s hat. She is no lay-about. Well. Okay maybe she spends some time laying about on guard duty. Who wouldn’t? She’s far more interested in witchcraft and is often found pestering Sven for handouts in the form of lessons and recipes. Sven roles his eyes and pretends to be bothered, but he secretly has a soft spot for the young Imperial. She reminds him of himself at her age. He’s impressed by her passion for the craft and believes she has potential. Sometimes she switches her attention to Elisa - a much less effective process. Elisa’s nocturnal habits make her unreceptive to Bestrafen’s repetitive complaints and inquiries about guard duty. It doesn’t help that Bestrafen chooses to annoy her in the wee hours of the morning. Where Sven sees potential, Elisa sees insolence. She has little patience for Bestrafen’s constant pestering. One of these days she’s going to have to follow through on the threat to blind her. One day. Truth be told, Sven is more in the right. Bestrafen is a promising young witch. More than once, Sven has caught her practicing her skills late into the night, making sure she has every minuscule detail committed to memory. There’s a joke in the clan about her reciting incantations in her sleep. Well, it’s kind of a joke. It may have happened once or twice. She still insists she didn’t start that fire. She’s uncharacteristically chatty for an Imperial. Most of this chatting takes the form of questions and complaints, but it’s chatting all the same. She’s at her quietest when she’s receiving instruction from Sven. She desperately clings to his every word, only asking questions when she’s sure he’s completed a thought. She respects his wisdom far more than she respects him. One day, Bestrafen hopes to be relieved from guard duty indefinitely. She’d love nothing more than to join the ranks of magic-users in the clan. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to get there, and one day, her passion and talent will pay off. Written by beekeep! |
