ASTRUM

A shooting star fell in a blaze a light, tearing the night sky in two, before blinking out of existence forever. Astrum watched as it fell, her dark form blending into the equally dark night perfectly. A faint gleam lit her eye, and she rose to her feet. Perched on the border between Plague and Earth, Astrum was one step away from starting her new life. "I don't know where my future lies," she said aloud, though no one but the cold, distant stars could hear her. "But I know it's not here." Her breath billowed in clouds around her; the Scarred Wasteland grew colder and less forgiving each night. She knew that this wasn't the place for her, she couldn't bear to live a moment longer within the choking confines of Plague's territory. She took a deep breath and, with one final glance towards her former home, stepped across the border.
~
Astrum was a changed dragon when she entered Nature's land. Dragonhome had been more barren than she had expected, an empty wasteland of dryness and dirt. Incessant clouds of dust had swirled around her, clinging to her hide and crystallising her scales. In them, you can see the stars, the cold and distant objects that prompted her journey. The Viridian Labyrinth was a huge contrast to weary Astrum. It teemed with life, from the lush growing grasses, soft beneath her feet, to the towering trees that gave shelter from the harsh sun. Insects scuttled through the ferns while birds called from the canopies. Strength flowed into her with every passing second, the fatigue she felt from her journey forgotten. Astrum knew she had found her home.
~
When she heard the news of her clan’s departure, Astrum was shocked. She didn’t want to leave. She definitely didn’t want to go back to the barren wasteland of Dragonhome. “It’s for the best,” the other dragons had said, and now, looking down over the Grearwyrm’s Breach, Astrum finally agreed. The clan would prosper here. Earth’s emptiness would serve the growing ranks of her clan well. |
