An Empire Fell.

The three words are spoken so simply - a fact of history, doomed ever to repeat. No bird shall remain forever in flight, no tree immune from the rot of age. No ruler nor lineage shall stand dauntless for eternity outside of legends and fairy tales.

Sairas fell both lifetimes and minutes ago, wearing its once proud matriarch to the bone with each passing thought. Still she marches forward, trudging through the memories as she did ash and mud and gore, leading her surviving people to safety and bowing her head in respect to both the sanctuary that housed them and those she had lost.

She longs for so much; itches to bare her teeth and sink the rot into those who took up arms to cut down innocents. But she tempers herself and refocuses her attention to where it is needed: to her people, to those of Olympia who welcomed and protect them. To little Hecate who calls her mother now that her fated guardian has been lost.

Peace, perhaps, is what she wishes for the most.
