Chosen by the Shadowbinder herself... what an honor.
(Spoken by Kali) It was simply a normal day. We were out Scavenging, just me and Tarin, searching through the land. We found many old dragon teeth, tattered papers, a few chess pieces... But as we were about to go back, I heard something. "What was that? It sounded like a Serthis," I spoke, on high alert. Tarin whipped his head around to face me. I sniffed the air, hunting for a snake-like smell. I found one. Shutting my main eyes, I looked through the trees, searching for signs of heat. For, although Serthis are cold-blooded, their usual prey is not. My gaze passed something off to the left, and I did a double-take. It looked like... an egg? Odd, eggs don't usually radiate warmth... My other eyes opened back up, and I leaped towards the oval shape. What I found was, put simply, extraordinary. |

A serthis assassin lay on the ground, dead. Its own blade had been shoved through its body. The tail still twitched, cold blood leaking out of the wound, eyes still wide open.
To the side, barely a meter away, was the egg. I then saw why it was so warm. A tiny, soft Shadowbinder doll seemed to cling to it, holding on for dear life. As much as we tried, me and Tarin could not pry it off. We eventually decided to take the egg back to the Lair, along with the doll, as it would've been cruel to just leave it for dead... About a month later, exactly one year after the Clan's founding, the egg hatched. Tiny, furry claws scratched at the shell, as the doll sat beside it. A small Tundra, almost too bright to look at, crawled forth. "A little... Bright, ain't he?" Tarin asked, almost concerned. "It doesn't matter, we will care for him. The Shadowbinder has chosen him, has she not?" |

Another month passed, and he grew into a powerful hunter. Although he was an herbivore, he used his fangs to catch all manner of meaty creatures, such as rabbits and birds. He even brought down an entire Elk once. The only problem was his fur- It was so bright that most animals saw him before he could catch them.
The Shadowbinder doll, however, would not leave him. Every trip, every hunt, every gather session, he carried the toy on his back, carefully tucking it in his fluff so that it would not fall out. It brought him luck. One day, the Tundra and I, we went on a hunting trip. That would soon be known as an unforgettable day, changing his life forever. He stumbled upon a scroll, locked between two large thorn bushes. If he were to reach in, his fur could've caught on the brambles... but he tried anyway. The thorns curled back, dropping the scroll at his feet. Watching from behind, I could swear I saw that doll's eyes glowing. As soon as he touched the scroll, darkness enveloped him. I ran to catch up, but an invisible force seemed to push me away. He screamed in terror for a single moment, before being shrouded completely. After only five seconds, the mist dissipated. He looked absolutely horrified. His fur was completely changed, much darker and more suited for stealth than his original colors. The doll had fallen from his neck, and sat beside him, hugging his arm. His wings were spread out defensively. "You... We need to get you home. You look like you need rest." "Th-Thank you, friend." |
