Biography
" Words can hold more power than even the sharpest sword, but it does not do well to let good steel rust. "
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dust motes swirled around Eadwulf as he placed the book he was reading back down on the table before him. Lyra, his dear friend, looked up at him from the book she had her nose buried in. ' Is there something wrong? ' Eadwulf looked toward the fair Wildclaw. She always could tell when he was feeling unsettled. ' I simply grow bored of my surroundings. I have felt like this for some time, as we have previously discussed.' Eadwulf had indeed spoken to Lyra about his displeasure with being in the clan of his birth. There was nothing wrong with it, quite the contrary. The hierarchy was stable, relations with neighboring clans were good, and the Beast Clans didn't dare attack them due to their rather formidable warriors. And that was the problem. There was no place for him here. No set role for him to fulfil. He was simply ... there. Reading, and collecting dust much like the books he buried himself in. Lyra sighed. ' I know well of your restlessness, Eadwulf. You have told me of your troubles many a time. ' Eadwulf could feel his face heat up. He had not meant to be of a bother to the diplomat. She was simply the only one who knew of his displeasure, and his closest friend. ' So why not leave the clan, and find another where your talents would of use? ' His head snapped up from the drooped position it had been hanging. Leave the clan? Leave everything he knew behind? Impossible. Seeming to read his mind, Lyra tutted and set down her book. ' Eadwulf. My dear friend, I have watched you grow from a wide-eyed hatching into the capable dragon you are today. You learned from myself, your mother, and your half-sister every possible thing we could have taught you. You leaving would not be an abandonment, it would be new growth, and a chance to reach to further heights then you ever could staying here. ' He blinked a few times, trying to process the words that were just spoken to him. It was rare that Lyra was so candid and blunt with her thoughts, he was caught off guard. ' How ... how long have you been of this opinion, my friend? ' She chuckled. ' Oh, quite some time now. I was waiting for you to come to the conclusion first, but I grew tired of hearing your sighs in the library. You always had a bit more trouble discerning what to do with your own problems than with others. ' A broad smile cracked his face in two, laughter soon following it. Shaking his head, he went to return the book he was reading. Wandering among the shelves, he pulled out a map of the land of Sorienth. ' Well then. I suppose I should look into the possible places that I might go to. ' When he and his siblings were born, Aquila had not produced a nest that was not to be offered to the Windsinger as exalts for some time. In fact, the last child that Aquila kept was Talulla herself. Despite this, his mother felt compelled to bring up children that would not be sent directly to their patron deity. Because of this, he received an upbringing that only those of high standing could hope to have. The best education was given to him, as well as training from the clan's master warriors. He excelled in the art of diplomacy, and soon focused his studies on that. Soon, he was called upon by all manner of clan members to settle disputes ranging from minor grievances, to problems that could rend the clan in two given the chance. However, he soon outgrew his teachers, and outgrew the inner workings of his still small home clan. So, Eadwulf prepares to depart from the clan of his birth, onto a larger and grander home. Eadwulf is the youngest of the latest clutch born to the Matriarch Aquila. A half-brother to Talulla, he still is tied to the family legacy. Despite being younger then his half-sister by many years, he possesses a wisdom and knack for things of a political persuasion that is the envy of many of the older dragons of the clan. He chooses his words with care, careful not to step on any clawed toes when called to mediate a dispute. Despite his talent with words and negotiations, he is not seen as slimy, or manipulative. Even his movements evoke a trust from those around him that can not quite be explained. |
