I have a bit of headcanon lore for my personal species project. My ore dragons live under the ruins/in the hewn city, and their gems omit light that they light the darkness with. Generally work as miners to find gems and the dust from the mining ends up crystallizing their hides :> A variant with smoke where the light energy kinda just flows freely rather than have a place to concentrate like with the gembond. It is far less reliable and offers a less stable illumination, but tends to concentrate around the dragon's legs and forelimbs to allow them to easily do more hands-on detail work.
