"..." Young Droyd was found unconscious and bleeding in the Mire by Basque and Coudskimmer while they were training. Weak, paralyzed, and close to death, she was rushed to the clan's territory to be healed by Rorsarch. The medic was able to stabilize her, but much of her body had been paralyzed. When Widget heard of this, she immediately began to work on a robotic exoskeleton that would return Droyd's mobility. With Birch's assistance and some parts left over from the Thundercrack Carnivale, Widget was able to create a fantastic amalgam of magic and technology that functions as well as any dragon's body. Droyd's enhancements work with the Lightning magic that already flows within her, but due to her weakness they must be charged from an outside source every once in a while. Droyd is a quiet, reclusive dragon who doesn't often have much to say. Some denmates suspect that her vocal chords had been damaged beyond repair, but this is not the case. She just doesn't want to talk to anyone. She refuses to elaborate on the circumstances of how she came to be fatally injured, even to those she trusts the most. Only a few dragons have gained Droyd's unrelenting trust. After becoming Widget's Charge and being saved by the Guardian's ingenuity, Droyd sees Widget as something like an older sister. She also loves Birch and Rorsarch for their help in her healing. Calabura's relentless nurturing led her to be the only dragon Droyd was never once scared of, and Droyd had more or less been officially adopted by her and Birch. Droyd was initially suspicious and a little jealous when Gemina came to the den to study under Widget. She was already Widget's assistant, another dragon didn't need to be getting in the way! In truth, she was afraid that Widget would learn to appreciate Gemina more, leaving Droyd in the dust. She hasn't brought up these worries to either one of them. Gemina's boisterous personality and reckless abandon quite frankly gets on Droyd's nerves very often, and she is thankful at times that her own silent nature keeps her from snapping at the Ridgeback. Still, Droyd diligently assists both dragons in their technological adventures. |
