Umbra Spy for the Clan of Shifting Flesh Introvert | Clever | Cold | Asexual | Homoromantic Umbra hails from a small, secretive Plague Clan who deals in a special strain of common dragon disease called Scalerot. For. The first year of their life, the younglings undergo intensive training and teaching. Once that training is complete they undergo the first part of their initiation by taking the Scalerot infection into their body from an elder member. Then, for the next month they hide away in complete and total darkness while their scales fall off. The process is painful and can sometimes drive young dragons mad. On the first new moon, when all the light has gone from Sornieth, the remaining scaleless dragons who made it through their month exit their caves and blindly fly from their home. These dragons will fly throughout the night, unsure of their direction. Just before dawn they will land and wait for the first rays of the sun to touch them. As their bodies are bathed in light, a crystalline chrysalis grows around them. This crystal shell will be their only protection for the next week. It's an odd material that acts as a magnet for the natural, elemental magic in the air. For roughly a week the dragon undergoes it's final transformation as new scales regrow with colors befitting the flight that they landed in. Their wings and belly plates will forever be scarred with crystal magic, giving them an impressive magical boost. Once the process is complete, any survivors will choose a new name and begin their task infiltrating their new Flight. They will only return to Plague Flight once they outlive their use as a spy. Umbra was born to a nest of one, during a time when no other nests had hatched. The lack of playmates proved to push her into adulthood much faster than normal, encouraged by her elder cousin who was her role model. As she watched him undergo his training, she strove to match him. Impressed by her eagerness, she was allowed to start her training early. The young female did not disappoint. Only a month after her fully grown cousin had left to make her journey, she accepted her Scalerot infection and went into the caves. The process was gruelingly painful, and nearly did the youngling in as it took it's toll on her body. Fortunately, she was used to solitude. As her month came to an end, she exited the cave and went on her journey. She remembered the direction her cousin had left, and was determined to somehow follow him. It did not take long though to realize that she would not be able to match the adult's fortitude. Still young, and fresh from the caves where her body was pushed, she became tired. Her wings would not carry her any further. Umbra was forced to land. Still, she was determined. Throughout the night she walked... ...and walked... ..and walked... The night seemed never ending. ...but then... She saw it! A light! It was a soft, blue glow, but it was still light. As she neared the odd glow, the final phase of Scalerot activated, and she was enveloped in the magical chrysalis. Finally, the youth could rest. However, when she awoke, she would discover that her never ending night was due to the fact she had landed in the dark of the Tangled Wood. What she would one day find out is that she had been on the correct path of her cousin, now named Lux, who had landed inside the boundaries of Light. Considered somewhat of a prodigy in her clan, Umbra is a hardworking and tenacious imperial who lets little stand in the way of her goals. As a youngling, some might have called her overeager to the point of recklessness, but since joining Shadow she seems to have settled down quite a bit. Having experienced very little companionship and compassion in her early life, Umbra struggled to get used to the many friendly dragons she soon encountered. Lost and unsure exactly what to do, she was given a place to stay within the Safe Haven Tavern, a gathering of various misfits from around Sornieth that was located within the edge of the Tangled Wood. The sudden introduction to the ever changing and somewhat rowdy cast had at first unnerved Umbra to the point that she was unable to focus on her mission. In an effort to help socialize the young dragon, the master of the tavern, Rune, sent Umbra to another clan to participate in a game of mafia on behalf of Safe Haven. The plan worked as Umbra hesitantly grew to care for the fates of her fellow town members, often taking their deaths very personally. A handful more times Umbra was sent to play more and more of these games, torn between the joy in finding companionship and the sorrow of losing them as the games progressed. It can be said that Umbra cares very deeply for the sake of the friends she makes, and has grown to admire and respect the members of the tavern. She worries for the future, knowing that her mission would have her betray everyone she meets for the good of her home clan.
