Lola

An older dragon, Lola was born in the Shifting Expanse, where she caught the eye of a suitor from Arcane. Young and impressionable, Lola thought he was the life mate for her. However, after she left with him to Arcane she discovered a darker side to him, not to mention the others in that lair. She was never in touch with the magic side of her and didn't understand the near obsession with the unknown and arcane arts of Sornieth. However, all around her were dragons adept and curious.


It was novel at first, until her mate grew bored with her and with it came a macabre curiosity. Lola would awake from nightmares, then it turned to physical pain. She didn't understand what was happening to her til one morning she woke up to a blast of magic that rattled her bones, twisted her muscles with cramps and felt as if she was being shredded apart. When she opened her eyes her mate was there, an aura of magic surrounding him. His smile was grotesque as he chanted in tongues.

The pain was immense but her will to live was stronger, she stood as her muscles robbed her rear legs of mobility. She had to use her front legs to drag herself to him. The magic was so strong he couldn't move til the spell was complete. He never finished the words however as Lola used her wings to knock him unconscious. Then she flew off into the night, her back legs hung uselessly from her body. She felt blessed to have escaped, but felt she had lost too much to that lair. She could never get back that chapter in her life.

But she could make it better, she returned to the Shifting Expanse where she nested with a simple lair, one that was quite content and happy. There she hatched her daughter Effie. She was protective of her first born.
