Though he doesn't speak of it to anyone, Gabriel remembers his life among a Light clan. He remembers the beautiful, shimmering sun and the open skies full of fresh, clean air. He remembers the siblings he adored and the love of his mother... And he also remembers the in-clutch fighting which tore his siblings apart and set them (and himself, by association) apart from the rest of the clan. Gabriel couldn't handle the stressful environment and left the clan as soon as his hatchling wings could handle flight. For a while, he struggled to survive on his own. The gold of his eyes was a constant reminder to everyone that he'd travelled far from home, and the brilliant shimmer of his scales drew the attention of every possible predator. He had to learn how to survive and fight... and to distrust most dragons he encountered, for he never knew which ones might attack him in attempt to defend their territory. Being a Spiral aided Gabriel in his quest to evade trouble as he attempted to find his niche in the world. Soon, he was one of the fastest and most agile of wild hatchlings... and he enjoyed showing off while he swooped in to steal food and treasure and claim winding tunnels of shelter in the domains of far larger dragons. Eventually, he came to claim domain in the Abiding Boneyard, coexisting with a local clan which accepted all who were willing to serve the Plaguebringer's cause. Gabriel refused to worship any deity, but the self-appointed Guardian of Lost Hatchlings, Dean, took to him anyway. (It was probably because the shimmery, sunrise-tinted dragon had a charming way of curling around his neck like a scarf and giving him affectionate nuzzles.) While still a youth, he met Arduinna: a hatchling who'd become hopelessly lost while attempting to mimic her father's tactics as an infiltrator. Knowing how dangerous it was for even the youngest of spies from Nature to get caught in the Plaguebringer's domain, he helped to disguise her element. He just couldn't see a hatchling get harmed for something as ridiculous as inter-flight politics - especially when such was part of what had caused the drama in his former clan. So he employed his charm and manipulated his friend Dean, knowing the Guardian would never turn on a chosen charge even if she was a potential spy. Once the young emerald's safety was ensured, Gabriel dropped the ruse and revealed her element... while vowing to her that he'd keep the nature (a pun he quite enjoyed) of her presence in Plague lands a secret. Thankfully, without reason to suspect she was anything more than a foolish hatchling, the clan accepted her presence. Soon, she and Gabriel were just as inseperable as Dean and his sunny-coloured 'scarf' of a smallish dragon. Well, almost as inseperable. Rumour has it: the green of his Guardian friend's scales is the inspiration for his emerald-toned armor. In truth, however, both his friends are inspiration in their own ways to the shimmering Spiral who'd never expected to be so close with any other dragon, much less two of them. Even though he finds himself courting Arduinna as their friendship grows, he also finds himself leaving gifts of tasty foodstuff for Dean... sometimes even atop nests, as a dragon might leave presents for their intended mate. Inter-dragon relationships never were Gabriel's strong point, but the three of them seem happy as things are and really that's what matters most. |
