Nascent Noise
"What is this? What is this?" Quartz was plucked, chirruping, from among his sisters. "A boy? We can't have another one of these in here. His father is one too many." The midwife snorted and handed him off to an attending dragon. "Put him...in the auction house. Or something. Just get him out."
The dragon did as it was told, and within a day Quartz was one among many other arcane children. He was allowed to wander so that his chaperone could more believably lose track of him. This was of little concern to the little Coatl, who was content to chatter and chirp with others his age.
]While he was not paying attention, he bumped into a big, furry tree. He ruffled the hair between his tiny claws, then looked up when the tree laughed. To his surprise, it wasn't a tree! It was a big, fluffy dragon! Quartz opened his mouth and let out a long squaw, during which the Tundra picked him up.
]"Easy, easy, what a voice you have," Albion cooed, "And you can certainly hold a note!" Still, a minute later, Quartz continued his sound, trying to push the boundaries of this adult. Albion hummed beneath his squalling, a pleasant sound, a counterbalance to Quartz's high voice. Soon, the hatchling grew quiet, content to listen to the sound of this stranger. Well, he was as strange as any other dragon at this age. Quartz was set in the soft fur of the Tundra's back. He gummed a tuft of hair as sudden drowsiness overtook him, and he fell asleep.
