Freed from her guardianship of Serraden, she is now a Ridgeback and capable of controlling her own destiny for the first time in her life. Quiet and withdrawn, Orres rarely speaks up in group settings. But once engaged in conversation Orres is talkative, though she tends to stick to subjects she knows best (swordplay, mostly). She exudes an air of effortless confidence that few dragons hope to match, and cuts an extremely imposing figure. Despite leaving her Guardian roots behind, Orres is fiercely protective of those she loves and utterly uncompromising in the act of taking responsibility for her actions. Those who know her will say she is as hard and unforgiving on herself as she is any enemy, though she has begun to grow out of her old depressive ways. She spends most of her time with her girlfriend, Faolín, whom she met while they were serving at the Court together. The relationship was once secret, and the pair are still exploring what it means to not have to hide. An extremely talented and capable warrior, she has a collection of one-handed swords that she maintains and curates religiously. Her relentless fighting style relies almost entirely on attack, and she dislikes using a shield (though she is trained in the use of them). Orres originates from the Windswept Plateau, but she was raised by surrogate parents in the Sunbeam Ruins and uses Light powers. Born a Guardian dragon, she left her home clan shortly after becoming an adult, eager to see the world and find her Charge. After a short wander south, she reached the Windswept Plateau and joined Commander Rezann's army. She was a member of the Light division, and so never came into contact with Neven or the other generals, aside from Fain. Fain's incredible fighting talent was a source of inspiration to Orres, and she worked hard to emulate her hero, even if her actions - and the actions of Commander Rezann's army as a whole - were harmful and despicable. One evening while on stakeout, Orres left the outpost on instinct, aware that her Charge was near. She met Serraden and was initially thrilled - finally, the Search was over! Her subsequent experiences as Serraden's lackey quickly taught her that having a Charge was far from the blessing other guardians talked about. She felt tremendous guilt over hating Serraden and sometimes felt that she was a disappointment to her species because of it. Orres was forced to stick by Serraden through the creation of the Court. She acted as his enforcer, against her will, and slowly became aware that if not for her protection of him, he would have been killed or assassinated long ago, and the suffering at the Court would never have taken place. But it wasn't until Serraden tried to have Faolín killed that Orres decided to do something about it. She petitioned the Windsinger for a breed change directly before the coup at the Court, and became a Ridgeback. Orres then formally renounced Serraden (by punching him in the face) and helped a few refugees escape Xandra's new regime. |
