“When she walks the earth, mist travels in her wake, more loyal than wolves to an alpha. With every breath she takes a cloud is born, even on days when there is no chill in the air. And when she takes to the skies, feathered wings beating so effortlessly and lifting her as if she weighed nothing at all, she becomes lost in the blue, indistinguishable from wandering storms. She is truly a force of nature.” Cirrus came to the Fleetwing Canyon long before Silkswift and Vaizel. She claimed the valley as her own, its pillars and rock and rivers and waterfalls all under her watchful eye and protective wingspan. For an unknown number of years (some theorize it to be hundreds) it was hers and hers alone, the only other population consisting of wildlife and the occasional lost traveler. Then two little Faes arrived at her doorstep one day; bright-eyed wanderers, yearning to begin their own community among the rifts and clifftops. Neither was aware that the land was already a part of Cirrus’s territory until she made herself known to the couple, arriving in a mysterious fog outside their tiny makeshift den one morning. The two were fearful of the giant at first, but they quickly realized that the Guardian was incredibly gentle and calm. They explained the situation to her and said they would leave immediately, however Cirrus refused. She said that she was more than happy to let the couple start a clan in the valley, but under one condition: the canyon would always be her property. No matter what happened, and no matter what role Silkswift and Vaizel would take on in their clan, she would always be the canyon’s true and final master. The couple agreed to the terms, and all was set into place. To this day Silkswift and Vaizel are the ones who do most of the leading in the clan. They are the heads of council, and tend to play an executive role in all decisions, however Cirrus remains the clan’s true matriarch. She has the end-all, be-all say in what goes on in her valley, no matter what. Until the day she passes from this world finally comes, she will always be the queen of the Fleetwing Canyon. |
