Yylfris (Yul-Fris)
Head Merchant at the Bastion Marketplace
When you take the sheer presence of Yylfris, his easy confidence and dazzling flair, it is hard to believe that the successful merchant began his story with nothing but dust, rags and aching loneliness.

Hatched and abandoned on the outskirts of the Hewn City, his first days were spent aimlessly wandering alone, delirious with hunger. Many hatchlings would not have survived, but by some stroke of fortune Yylfris stumbled his way out of the Sunbeam Ruins and into the lands of the Shifting Expanse. By the time anyone found him he was bedraggled and sunburned to the point where his fair and golden colouring was unrecognisable.

It was a caravan of travelling merchants who discovered the hatchling, believing him to be another corpse to add to the bones scattered across the aptly named Carrion Canyon. After recovering from the surprise to find the youngster alive, they nursed him back to health on the road.

The dragons he travelled with were not kind nor charitable, demanding that their rescue pay them back with work - tending stalls, sorting goods and fetching supplies. Cleaner and with a belly full of dried fish, Yylfris proved himself to be a quick learner with a sharp wit. Whatever the task, no matter how hard they worked him, he treated everything as a chance to learn and understand and think. It didn’t take long for the young coatl to decide that one day he would make his own wealth, so that he would never have to be hungry and lost again.

A year after he was scooped up from the brink of death, the trade caravan was caught up in a sudden sandstorm without shelter or means of escape. When the scouring tempest cleared he found himself alone with the exception of one of the caravan’s lockneck porters. Two options were now before him; to search the bleak landscape for his missing companions or to take the beast with its (valuable) burdens and seek his fortune in the world.

And so Yylfris the Merchant set out to make his first trade, making for the lands of his birth. It was there, in a bustling sea-side marketplace, that he met and attempted to swindle Brynn. After failing to sell a fake magical amulet, he was surprised to be invited to join the Fae’s clan, the other explaining that they were hoping to improve trade between neighbouring clans.

Since that day Yylfris has been the lead merchant of the Vigilight Clan, moving with them when they took to the skies and established the trade city of the Bastion.
