Astraeus

Astraeus first opened his eyes in the darkness of the abyss, phyto-plankton and bio-luminecent fish shimmering around him like stars in the sky. He was fully grown but could not have said where he had come from or why he was there in the depths of the Leviathan Trench. As he became aware of his surroundings -- the sway of the currents, the thrum of his own heart, even the turning of his mind in the darkness -- a voice called to him.

“Astraeus, Bearer of Stars,” the deep timber called.

“Tidelord,” he responded, the knowledge flooding through his mind like the seawater around him.

“Your clan waits for you,” the Tidelord replied. “Go to them now.”

As the voice of the Tidelord faded away, Astraeus unfurled his dark wings and pushed against the flow of the currents. He followed a winding path through the undertow, wings pumping. His mind saw shallower waters somewhere far ahead and. More distant still, a lively collection of brightly colored dragons swooped through the waters and to the surface, speaking in many voice but all as one.
Letting his mind hone in on the image, Astraeus did as the voices bade and followed them home.
