These dragons tend to not have a lot of experience. They also are likely to be unable to deceive others.

The moment Thoth first laid eyes on Morrigan, he knew there was no one else in all of Sornieth who would ever hold his heart. Until then, his dalliances had been just that: fleeting attractions, pleasurable but short-lived. And certainly no one had inspired poetry before. Normally, verses came to him in the dark, pieces of poems yet unformed, painstakingly fashioned into something coherent over the course of weeks or month.

But when he met Morrigan at a Clan Ulalume dinner, he composed a poem on the spot, scribbling it into the fine cloth napkins with as much subtlety as he could muster. Every one noticed, as Thoth's frame alone is difficult to miss, let alone the whispering under his breath as he tests his poetry into existence, but they pretended not to for the sake of politeness. To this day, he still believes he went unnoticed, and that it resulted in the most important poem of his life.

Of course, actually finding the chance to recite the poem to Morrigan was more challenging than writing it. Between a few attacks of cowardice, some more courageous attempts spurned by the heir's guards, and at least two distinct instances of miscommunication regarding time and place, it was months before Thoth found himself in Morrigan's sight once again.

And by then, he'd accidentally lost the original poem, with new ones finding their way into his pockets in the time since. What he read to the love of his life on the day he finally secured an audience was not the sweeping love poem he'd dreamed of winning her over with, but a bawdy limerick, written purely for his own amusement.

Perhaps it was for the best that he made that mistake. Had he laid all his affection bare before Morrigan that day, extolling her virtues, she may well have turned him away, an unwelcome suitor. Instead, though, his ribald composition made her laugh, a sound few had ever heard, and she invited him to return to her presence whenever he could think of another tasteful innuendo. Apparently, there was little room for laughter in the life of an heir, and his mistake had been the bright spot in her otherwise demanding day.

Since then, he and Morrigan have been nearly inseparable. It took time to recover his courage after that initial blunder, and still more time to rediscover the original poem, but he saved that until they were well and truly in love, instead wooing her with his easygoing charm and indecent jokes. By the time he read it at last, there was no chance she would recoil from his praises. Instead, she drank in every word and the sincerity behind it, which had only grown since the dinner during which Thoth composed it.

She's encouraged him to write more, too. While he may not be the politically savvy match her parents desire, he has a way with words, and remains unafraid of her often imposing family. He is the light in her life, the welcome respite from responsibility. And by all the deities, he's handsome, too. Not bad, if Morrigan says so. Not bad at all.
