she was questioned upon arriving with sol into teraq, and while he could enter with no trouble, lampsi had a ton - mainly due to the fact that an anonymous person tipped jinse into identifying her as the outlaw who ransacked her father's deathbed of its jewels.
after all, lampsi grew up without parents. she was taken in by a veteran named romand as a hatchling, after he found her among industrial rubble of the ashfall waste.
he brought her up to be clever and charming, yet emotionally distant. romand was, as lampsi knew him, a cunning, smart old fox who had a trick or two up his sleeve. he knew how to survive - and that was all that she needed.
lampsi excelled in combat from a young age, but as a mere wildclaw, she soon realised she would need varying tactics for different dragons - for battling faes and pearlcatchers would be massively different when compared to battling guardian romand.
soon did an opportunity arise, but it was soon demolished as soon as lampsi took a glimpse at said opportunity's lower half.
a young skydancer child without hind legs.
their stumps dragged across the ground - scarred and infected from presumable months of routinely scabbing. it was a true miracle they'd even survived.
the child's name was to be cecily, and she was to be brilliant.
romand had not a lick of time for lampsi for years. cecily had arrived, but lampsi did not grow bitter - she grew strong.
cecily's hind legs would grow to be an ominous situation if not... repaired. romand was too busy testing prosthetics to hunt or scavenge, and so lampsi took it upon herself to complete those very tasks, day in day out, all the while training and caring for her new sibling.
but the real world caught up. cecily got sicker, romand grew frantic, lampsi was made to bear the burden.
she tracked down a surgeon. told him with a blade to his jugular that she'd remove him if he didn't comply.
said surgeon had a possé.
but that was to be expected, and lampsi, barely a teenager, removed five within a minute. ransacked them. sobbed among the gore.
a boy soon arrived, with eyes like the sun.
they darkened as he laid his molten gaze on the scene.
"what did you do?" he had asked, timid in the doorframe, with a tremor in his voice like there was an earthquake within.
"bad things," lampsi could only reply, the saliva dribbling down her face, mucus mixing with saltwater tears despite half-baked efforts to rid of emotive language.
and the stranger had held her among the remnants of what she'd taken away, as if the real world did not exist.
he offered to help carry what she had stolen.
"you're insane," lampsi had rasped, snot dripping from her chin.
"maybe," the sun had replied, with a beam of pearly whites among a blood-laden face, "but i'm also a pretty good judge of character."
romand cradled lampsi once she had returned and had held a blade to the sun's jugular.
"he helped," she explained, bleary and fatigued yet jittery and traumatised. "with the stuff."
"i'm a botanist," the sun had said, like having a life-saving career such as his was no large feat, "my name is sol."
"help us, sun," romand was on his knees in a split second, pride dissipated and weapon clattered to the floor. "her sister is dying."
and the sun had swooped to cradle them in its light, as a mother would her firstborn.
the sun had saved lampsi, for the first of many times to come.
