Essel, lost and afraid, was found with her leg trapped under a pillar by Matriarch Regalia during a patrol of the territory. Regalia immediately felt pity towards her, and something akin to motherly protection rose up in her chest. Regalia, unable to have children since her first child decided she wanted nothing of leadership and decided to travel the world instead, adopted Essel as her own. Regalia and Pernicious raised her with no expectations, simply happy to have a daughter of their own.

Essel later showed skill in the art of singing, and Regalia was quite pleased. Regalia is raising her to be a just and righteous leader. While Essel is not Lightborn, she is quickly picking up the traits of one born to Lightweaver due to her natural curiosity.

Now, Essel is one of the fiercest warrior scholars in the Morningstar Archives and has proven herself worthy of the title of Regalia's successor. While she shows a controlled exterior and has an appreciation for justice, she is also tempered by suffering and abandonment. A cruel side of her personality only comes out when she's either in battle or denied something she wants. Because of this, Essel is generally given what (or who, in Cassiopeia's case) she wants. Because few have seen this side of her and even fewer actually discuss it, no one casts a worried eye on the warrior heiress.

She wears golden silks and shining gems like she wasn't left for dead by her wretched parents but was born into the lap of royalty all along. Although she wears armor like a second skin and delights in bloodshed, Essel has the bearing of a dancer and the poise of any regal dragon. Her face can seem unreadable at times, so she's quite a dangerous presence at court. Although she isn't skilled in witty banter or twisting words, she has the ability to pick out when someone is lying unless they have an especially slippery tongue.
