Biography
Some legends tell of dragons born from the Will of the Ancients instead of eggs. They’re forged into flesh and bone, gifted life so that they can carry out thousands of years of the Ancestors Heritage. The legacy can never die. These same legends speak of Guardians who are protectors of past and present. One can walk many different paths, be it that of a passionate warrior, a talented mage, or a skilled shaman—these shamans were ones who connected the spirit world and the physical world into one. All paths lead each dragon to their own Nemesis and, for this, they must be prepared to face it. The Nemesis varies per dragon, per path. Shamans carry within them a Shadow. A Shadow is a mindless deity without thoughts of their own, but it isn’t immune to corruption of forgotten souls. Through the Shadow, the corrupt souls use the Shadow as a means to reach the shaman’s mind and weaken them for possession. Such is the way of Shadows, and the way of spirits. Nakuset’s Shadow came to him corrupted, straight from hatching. A rotten and corrupt soul had merged with it upon passing in an attempt at keeping some semblance of life and waited, always, for a chance to be reborn and living again. It would bide its time. Slowly, it worked away at him. It would take him piece by piece, taking as long as was needed to win everything. This corruption manifested into half-nightmares and haunting visions, but only in the early stages. As the local shaman, Nakuset was responsible at keeping hostile spirits at bay in order to keep the clan safe and for guiding the adolescent dragons into adulthood with maturity rituals. There was no one better for this task, as Nakuset was kind and gentle and wise enough to do his duty and do it well. Time passed, as all things do, and Nakuset found his shamanistic talents expanding. Rather than just spirits, he could soon see souls of the dead; they were hostile things and always lurking. Soon enough, Nakuset became more adept at seeing the differences between the types of spirits. This, he is certain, is when the headaches came. His Shadow sent terrible visions onto him to break him from within. It warped at his mind and wore him down, the terrible soul seaking to corrupt Nakuset for its gain. Expecting death, Nakuset prepared for the inevitable. And yet in never came. It was not his time. The pain subsided and eventually fell away. What had changed? How had Nakuset won against the Shadow? And then he saw what the change had been: an unfamiliar Guardian, calling herself Amissi, who had overcome Nakuset’s Shadow and silenced it. With her help, he grew into health—a challenge that took her near weeks to accomplish. In time, he did heal and in more ways than one. Amissi was good to him and brought peace and comfort with her. Countless times Nakuset wished he could offer her some sort of payment, although perhaps that wasn’t the only reason why he stayed close by her side. |
