Kintsugi
"I wonder if my heart long ago was as golden as the scales I adorn now..."

Once upon a time, there was a grand iridescent Imperial with a heart of gold. The beast was awarded leadership by the founder before their passing, despite the fact he had only joined months before. Nevertheless he took his job very seriously. Every dragon was fed, cared for, and loved as if they were all his blood kin. Everything was well and he felt quite happy. One day the clan took flight to face off against a neighboring clan over numerous events of burglary. Just when the Imperial thought they were at the last minutes of the fight, his happiness shattered.
"You should not have been chosen! You have not even been a year with us and yet you are above us!"
The dragons he called his family turned against him, fighting alongside their enemy to take down the grand Imperial clan leader. The shock of the betrayal shattered his heart, leaving him unable to defend himself. He could not grasp the reality of what was happening nor could he raise a claw to those he ate and conversed with daily. The Imperial curled up and let his once beloved friends do what they would to him. Hours passed and the dragon laid in his blood, the ground soaking in his impending death and tears he long stopped shedding.
At this time, the Arcanist was taking a rest from endlessly peering into his telescope and logging his findings. His gaze swept over the Isles till a spot on the land called out to him. Normally the Arcanist would not bother but he sensed this was one of his own and spared a look.
"What a pity. Alone on the battlefield to die alone. The smell of salted tears is as strong as the blood that has left your winding, clawed up, body. It's nearly impossible to compliment the hue of your scales with the amount of wounds you have sustained, child. If you were pottery, I would fill you with gold as an ancient beast clan once did with their shattered ceramics."
Suddenly the Arcanist had an idea. If pottery became more beautiful and was given new life with but precious, glittering gold, why not dragons? With his entourage of sprites gathering up forsaken gold armor from the bloodstained field, the great god molted and imbued his magic into the shining, liquid ore, filling in where flesh was slashed and where wings were ripped apart. The magical gold filled the Imperial with life and sealed all his bodies scars, leaving behind a beautiful goldenrod crackle where it went. The Arcanist was satisfied with his work and left the healed body to return to his studies.
As day broke, the newly awakened Imperial rose with no knowledge of where he come from, who's clan he belonged to, and just who he was as a dragon. The only information he could recall was that he felt that he was not always this gold....
And that his name had to have been Kintsugi.
