Biography

Astarte
The Shadow Dancer

Personality:

Graceful and talented, Astarte is a sight to behold. Her reputation as a dancer precedes her as many clans have asked for her to perform for them. She settled down in clans that interest her and performs in nearby areas, mostly using the clan as a place of rest. Having her visit is a rarity, and some clans try to hold onto her. Astarte, however, cannot be contained. She is far too talented to be locked down to just one clan. Not only is she picky about where she stays, but as the queen of wandering dancers, she cannot let her reputation be dirtied by clans that are beneath her. Another way to say all that is to call her snotty and stuck up. She isn't either to an extreme, however, but just enough to tell the world that she is important and she will be treated with as much respect as she desires. There is no in between of what she wants.

With that in mind, Astarte doesn't ask for much. Mostly, she will want a private den or room to herself, a dressing room, and food. That is all she requires as she will keep some of the treasure she makes and then give the rest to the clan currently housing her. Some clans are lucky enough to have her return and grace them with the money she brings in. While it appears she won't talk to anyone that isn't another wandering dancer, all it takes to get her into a conversation is to ask her about her children or about any books or shows she had seen recently. Astarte will talk someone's ear off, especially about her darling children. She keeps tabs on all of them and sends them letters at time, just to make sure they are all alright. Even if her children stay close to her, she will check on them when she goes traveling. After all, she's as good of a mother as she is a dancer. As for being a good mate, Astarte cannot make any promises. She loves her children, not necessarily the father of them.
Regardless, she has never let her reputation be put ahead of who she is. While she is stuck up and snotty, she is only so to an extent. She is respectful to all the dragons she meet, given they are respectful to her, because everyone works hard for something. To her, it is working hard to make a perfect dance. She just couldn't live with herself if she ever let her ego get too big for her work. She lets the dances speak for her, and if a crowd does not love her dances then she will correct herself. Any praise she has gotten in the past has been gotten through hard work, tears, and pain. She isn't known as the queen of the wandering dancers for no reason. If anything, Astarte is too talented for most, but she does plan to settle down with a clan. Someday. Maybe.

History:

The wandering dancers are not a clan as much as they are an idea. Traveling performers are common in the world, but only a few of them reach stardom. For the wandering dancers, this is not the case. Astarte knows this, as one of the leading wandering dancers of her time. The wandering dancers are a group of dragons that only do traditional dances to traditional music. They travel more often than not and their dances are never performed in the same location twice in the same year, for good luck. The morals of the wandering dancers are simple. Never let your ideals get in the way of your work, entertain but do not flaunt, don't dirty the stage with cruel words or unforgivable dances, and the most important ideal: the dancer is at fault if a crowd does not enjoy the show, not the dance. These few ideals have led Astarte's life for many years, and she has finally begun to realize what they mean. It is one thing to be a wandering dancer, but it is another to understand it.

While she was traveling, Astarte discovered many interesting clans and learned many wonderful dances. Her favorite dances are ones that focus on something about the culture of the clan. Something that tells a story with the music. A dance where no words are needed, where everything can be felt through the music and her movements and her love of dancing. To express emotion through the most simple of things, to cause a change in heart. Her dream is to spread her dances to as many dragons as possible, while learning more dances along the way. As she gained her reputation, she gained her title of the queen of the wandering dancers. Not because she started any great movement or because she is the best dancer out there. She got her title because she believes in what she does. To her, dancing for money doesn't make you a good dancer. It makes you greedy. A lot of money on the side can be a good thing, but to do something because you love to, because you believe in it, is a lot different than doing something because you want to get rich during it.

As time drew on, so did she. Her age was beginning to show and catch up with her. Astarte didn't care about looking old. It was an achievement. She had managed to get that far in life, after all. What she fears is that she won't be able to move like she once could, so she began to sample other clans, to find a place where she can settle and be happy. Currently, she has decided to settle down in Arcane while she keeps dancing. So far, it seems to be the best place for her to call home. Even if she isn't wandering, she will always dance and she will always be the queen. She plans to only dance twice a year on a nice stage soon, so she keeps with the traditions, but she will need to mark someplace out to be her home. A place where, when she can no longer dance, she can rest.
