quote Have you ever wondered what would happen if you plunged an unhatched egg into Baldwin's Cauldron? A mess, it turns out! This ridgeback's father is arguably a scientist - of a whimsical variety. While he does have specific methods, he doesn't seem to be aiming for any specific results. Instead, he just plunges whatever comes to hand into Baldwin's Cauldron and excitedly records the results. In this case, after wooing one of the Clan's imperials, Cleopatra, he stole the eggs from the nest after promising to watch them (sparking some large amount of outrage) and plunged both into the simmering brew. Then he waited... ...and waited...
...and waited.
Some days later a pair of male ridgebacks emerged, coughing and squeaking, from the green goo. Though they were recognizably Captain's own offspring from their red color, they were tainted with some black disease - their skin oozes a constant black discharge that seems to have some magical properties, but otherwise does not seem to discomfort them. Captain promptly dubbed them 'cauldronborn' and lost interest. More things went into the cauldron. This particular hatchling has inherited his father's questionable morals - he believes that anything is permissible if the need to know what would happen is great enough. He has already begun to study his father's work, and shows great aptitude and an impressive memory. He shows promise as an alchemist or perhaps as an herbalist, if his attention can be channeled away from his father's obsession early enough in his life.
