Beaumont is the firstborn son of Alistaire and Lady Sterling. However, due to his father's lack of title, he had to earn his place in high society. He entered the military and trained under his uncle Straylight. His parents also taught him how to comport himself as a perfect gentleman. He drew attention quite quickly due to his ability to dual wield swords. He kept that attention by remaining cool under all circumstances.

He rose rapidly through the ranks and became a Captain. His men all seek to follow his orders to the letter, for seeing that mild look of disappointment on Beaumont's face is a source of deep shame for them. He is always gentle in giving his orders (and distributing punishment) and that makes it all the worse. His men want to please him.

His father is very proud of him. He once told him, "Most people fall into two categories. They are ruled by the will of others or they are ruled by their vices. There are some who try to rise above, only to be beaten down by the tyrannical consequences of their decisions. It takes a strong person to face the consequences of their actions. I think you are strong enough. You have the ability to grab the situation by the jaws and overcome it, and that, my son, is the greatest power anyone can hope to have".

Beaumont, as well as being a disciplined soldier, has a solid intellect and is a fine dancer. He is always a gentleman and seeks to ensure that other men act as gentlemen in his presence. He has fought and won more than a few duels on account of some man acting rude while he was within earshot.

He met his wife Alexandrine while serving with the Clan of the Roaring Pines in the battle against the centaurs. They met while he was at the training camp.
