His name is Actias, but few dragons know him as such even within Clan Aphaster. He was born and raised in the old dynasty as a shadow emissary: a dragon who worked out of the public eye and often under secretive conditions. He was meant to resolve conflicts that would, if solved by any official displays of power, cause the clan to go to war or damage their standing with their allies. As time went on and his notoriety grew, it was quietly accepted that he can't be viewed or treated as part of the clan. As a result, all but a few dragons who remember his birth believe that he is unaffiliated and that he keeps close tabs on Aphaster only because of the presence of his son there. It is very common knowledge that the Smoke Gyre loves his son, but his wrath is so feared that few will risk trying to attack from that angle. When Telos rose to power and the clan united under the name 'Aphaster', he trained the Umbra Wolf to replace him. While he had become autonomous, serving the kingdom, it's allies, and sometimes the entire territor, his protege would serve Telos and Aphaster only. He even trained her to kill him if the need arises. It is seen as best for everyone involved that no one in the Queen's cabinet know for sure what he does. However, he makes himself accountable to Hart and Safiri without fail and in matters that directly involve the clan, he will often answer to Azricai. Due to the long history of bloodshed between the Smoke Gyre and the harpies of the Windswept plateau, his presence in the Snnbeam Ruins has made harpy relations with Clan Aphaster difficult. However, word is spreading that he saved a harpy child from the Ashfall Catoptria and even heeded a request from her in spite of her having nothing to give him. Time will tell if this small gesture can lead to better relations with the local harpy clans. |
