Ash had a family once. Although, he finds it harder and harder to remember them with each passing day. Details of his parents are fleeting, but he'll always remember his mother's humming. It was as if it were all she did, was hum soothing melodies to him and his sister. As for his father, he remembers bright red scales, entwined with soft yellow. He had a job to do almost every day, and Ash hardly ever saw him. His clearest memory is of his sister, Fera. Her coloration is soft and pale, just like their father. While Ash inherited the hard, dark colors of his mother, as well as her gleaming wings. The two young dragons would always play near their cavern home just outside of the Veldirsong kingdom, a land scorched by magma and brimstone. It was these very lands where tragedy struck the small family. The giant volcano, several miles away, erupted during a violent tremor. The liquid rock oozed its way toward the kingdom, as well as their home just past it. Even these traumatic memories have become hazy for Ash, possibly never wishing to remember again. What he does recall, though, is his mother's calm voice, laced with panic cry, "Fly children! Get as far away from here as you can!" And that is what they did. Despite his young age, his shimmering wings were just a little stronger than his sister's, able to carry him long after she had fallen back to the dusty earth below. He didn't realize this, though, and continued to fly until he could not anymore. Strange, unfamiliar territory surrounded him, bright and warm, not scorching hot like his birthplace. The young Skydancer, already terrified after the events that occurred, quickly realized that he was now alone, and far away from home. The more he thought about it, the less he really wanted to go back. As he grew, Ash could not stop wondering what had become of his sister, and soon began to feel a sense of duty about him. He felt that he had to find her, not only for his own closure, but for Fera's as well. He didn't doubt that she was wondering the same as he, if she were safe and sound that is. He would have to retrace his steps sooner or later, but for now, he will continue to aid the clan that he lives in any way that he can. |
