Biography

Vandal
Apprentice Necromancer

Vandal's parents left shortly after his hatching, to go serve the deities rather than continue with a worldly life. The Necromancer, Valarauka, observed an untapped potential within the young Skydancer, and persuaded him to pledge himself as her first apprentice.

Vandal is proud and warlike. His teacher is constantly counseling caution, lest his hot-headedness get him into a situation he is unprepared for. He looks down his nose at others regularly, and believes other magical traditions to be inferior to his. The Skydancer is takes great joy in the terrified shrieks and cries as a result of sending half-eaten corpses shambling into the hatchling nursery. The Ambassador and unofficial hatchling-sitter Guardian pair of Curcubita and Sopor are not fans of his antics, finding them mean-spirited and uncreative (that's more Curc -- Sopor takes it in stride and prefers giving no reaction at all).

So far in his training, he has proven skilled at reviving decaying tissue and reanimating desiccated corpses. Healing putrid wounds without the use of maggots is a good skill to have, and has earned him the respect of Kharon, the clan healer. Despite Vandal's volatile and sometimes violent nature, Kharon requests his presence whenever the Imperial is handed a more complicated bodily injury.

When his teacher bowed to the request of Clan Lammoth's leader to accept another young Skydancer as a student, Vandal was not pleased at all. He is slowly coming to terms with getting less attention from his teacher (and stand-in mother figure), and sharing with a "sibling." Morgoth is icy in comparison to Vandal, but still harbors a mean streak a mile wide. Vandal is beginning to grudgingly accept that he might go further in life with a few more allies...
"I'll flicken' wreck ya, Frostbite." The young Necromancer snarled, snapping at the younger Skydancer to his side. "You better sit still or-- or--"

"Or what, pray tell?" Morgoth hissed, more focused on the slowly coalescing opposing energies between his claws than his argumentative classmate. They both sat on their haunches, today's lesson to focus and maintain a certain kind of magical energy until time was called. He was struggling to call one of his latent magics into being without the other, but it was proving more difficult than he'd anticipated. Fire and Ice were woven together in this new body, and it would take some time to learn how to separate them. That is, if the lesson didn't devolve into another physical fight.

"That's it, you Poultrygeist--" Vandal snarled, abandoning all pretense of focus on today's lesson. He let his magics dissipate, craving the feel of his talons catching on flesh as he took a cheap swipe at his study-brother. He rarely came up with an excuse to resort to violence. Today's lesson of maintaining focus had him in a foul mood -- Every time he felt he was close to a breakthrough, the shady little twerp would move or shuffle or breathe and it would distract him to the point of losing all progress. So really, he had this coming!

Morgoth did not react quickly enough. Vandal's claws caught him at his shoulder and tore bloody trails to his elbow before he jerked away, hissing loudly while putting distance between himself and his attacker. He was not yet fully grown or fully settled into this body, so the older student had an advantage over him in physical combat. Come to think of it, physical altercations rarely went in his favor before either.

Vandal pursued immediately, not letting the smaller male find his footing to counter. Instead, he threw his weight into Morgoth to knock him over and pin him. He managed to throw a few more clawed swipes while the younger Skydancer kicked and flailed in an attempt to get away. Things were about to get even uglier when the scuffle was interrupted by a soft staccato question.

"What. Are. You. Doing?" Their teacher had approached while they were distracted. Having paid close attention to the growing frustration of her eldest student, she'd expected this... But perhaps not so soon.

"He was doin' it on purpose, ma'am--" Very much the guilty party, Vandal began to justify his actions.

"I was not! You're just looking for an excuse for why you're so awful at this!" The shady subadult snarled, finally finding an opening to deliver a solid kick to his attacker's ribs.

"I do not want to hear it from either of you." Valarauka moved, pulling the two apart and placing herself between them. She sighed softly, assessing the damage on her boys and thinking of an appropriate punishment.

"Vandal, you will knit the flesh you tore on Morgoth." She stared the older of the two down. "Then you will report to the Bone Smith to assist him with whatever cleaning or sorting task he requests for the next two weeks. You will do this correctly, painlessly, or I shall send you to assist with foraging duties."

"Yes ma'am, I understand," Vandal seemed to wilt beneath her gaze. Morgoth had the good sense not to look smug about seeing his attacker punished.

I hope you're ready for a firefight
'Cause the devil's got your number tonight
(They say!)
"We're never leaving this place alive,"
But if you sing these words, we'll never die
