Raphael
The Healer
I can't fight, I can't kill, I can't even watch that needless death. All I can do is try to put their pieces back together afterwards. It's not impressive, but that's how it is.
That's who I am.

Oblivion - Bastille
What About Now? - Daughtry

Are you going to age with grace?
Are you going to age without mistakes?
Are you going to age with grace,
Or only to wake and hide your face?

The sun is breaking in your eyes
To start a new day.
This broken heart can still survive
With a touch of your grace.
Shadows fade into the light.
I am by your side,
~

How he Arrived
He's not sure how he arrived here. There was light, and sound, and suddenly a field. There wasn't really a before this clan, but he's sure he's living in something close to an After.

Trinket was the first to greet him. His voice was soothing, telling him of the clan, of it's strange origins and their strange boundaries, how this clan came to be and forever will be. Trinket called it a sanctuary. The old Gaurdian also explained of how those who wander always end up within it's walls, if only for a brief period, as if calling out to them. As they talked, things slowly fell into place.

He spoke of being in need of a healer. There was a disease among some of the hatchlings, leaving them sluggish and cold. Though not urgent yet, Trinket had just begun his search in one. That's when the final piece clicked into place.

Raphael's confusion turned to ease as he stepped into the needed role. He was brought here under strange circumstances to heal. And heal, he did.

Though he's adept in the fine tunings of healing the body, Raphael is especially good at healing ailments of the mind. He has a naturally calming presence, often times lost in the very depths of the caves in his own area where those who go to be healed end up in.

After his Arrival

He fathers many children with Nala. Though he is often described as distant and melancholy, Raphael has always done his best to provide a loving home to his hatchlings, always making sure they were happy and healthy. His work kept him busy, but he always made sure to return to them at the end of the day.

He doesn't speak to anyone about his mutations. Actually, he does his best to keep his extra wings hidden under his normal ones. When one does get a glimpse, Raphael is often interrogated about them. He's spent many nights trying to pluck the wilting feathers off of him to no avail. Though they have done no harm to him, it's become another reason for Raphael to close further on himself.

This hasn't affected his healing ability at all. He is still on the front in the infirmary, helping those who need his help first and foremost, no matter what they think of his mutations. He's considered one of the best healers in all of the scarred wasteland. For this reason, he stays. Knowing that the clan would be helpless without his help, and despite his extra wings, Raphael stays to ensure everyone's good health. Nala always says that he's just selfless like that, though Raphael would never admit to his own good traits.

Everything was going fine. Raphael healed those who needed it. He visited his many kids. He restocked the infirmary and prepared to send Nala out for more supplies. That's when they noticed the beginning of their youngest hatchling, Fawn, and their mutation.

Raphael ushered him out of the center of the clan, afraid that those infected within the clan were speeding up whatever mutation his child had. He implored Inkheart to watch them, desperate for solutions but not wanting to worry Fawn.

Inkheart had taken on the hatchling graciously, teaching him the ways of the garden, how things worked and how to grow and take care of the plants. Meanwhile Raphael tried to find a way to stop the mutation. He lost many hours of sleep, unsure how. He spent many days in the garden, watching Fawn with Inkheart. He was exceptionally proud as Fawn took a liking to medicinal herbs, but still Raphael's worry deepened as Fawn's mutations worsened.

That's when Raphael met Basil for the first time. Raphael admits later on that he was a bit brash in his desperation, pulling the Imperial aside to speak about the clan from which she came from. It wasn't until Inkheart came, calming Raphael down, that he actually started to make sense.

From there, it was decided that Fawn would travel home with Basil, much to Raphael and Nala's heartbreak. The parents acted extremely happy for their child, encouraging them. Raphael gave Fawn his book of medicinal herbs, reminding the hatchling just how much his family loved him.

There were many tears shed after Fawn's departure. Raphael already missed his son desperately, though he knew that it was imperative that he leave the plaguelands lest his mutation becomes fatal.

So Raphael continued what he's always done. He cured ailments both of body and soul. Setting bones and talking through issues with many clanmates once again became his normal day.

He keeps a well documented journal of everyone who visits them and the various medical needs that they might have had when they visited. Every once in a while he leaves the clan to visit his beloved Son. While he's there he's often quiet as he always has been, though it is always obvious how happy he is to see his son thriving.

So Raphael lives on, content. He's gained a certain interest in mutations, hopefully one day learning to cure the ones that plague his family.

Fortunately for me, I did not meet Raphael in a professional capacity - at least not his profession. He is a skilled healer, one my clan would be most honored to learn from. Perhaps we could arrange some correspondence between him and our head scientist, Petri? She would be most curious about his methods, I’m sure.

Raphael is just divine. Like, literally. Everything here works together. A good layering of items, especially the bangles and sandals, which work together instead of competing for attention. The colors are soft and warm enough to pick up on those browns in the genes instead of being sterile and clinical. This dragon is an angel, but not a marble statue, and it really comes together, aided a lot by that stunning accent, but the outfit is solid enough on its own merits that it wouldn’t fall apart without the accent.
